    Wall @ 230FSB need help

damn, im trying to OC my here.
MSI K8 Neo PE bios 1.4
    amd 64 3200+ clawhammer
    corsair twinx pc4000
    timmings 3-3-3-11
    HT x 1

i started on 205x7 and worked my way up
    225x7.5 worked real nice.
    then 230x7.5 errrrroors.
cant come in to bios. just gets "errors" on the screen and system hangs
i even tried some extra volt on both cpu and mem but the same.
    its the invincible wall.
my mem should take atleast 250fsb
and i also think the cpu will.
dunno what to do. i havent tested to smack the biatch up to 240fsb yet.
maybe its just something weird on 23X

not guaranteed at all. Your memory is guaranteed to run stock, that's it. past that it's all luck...

what kind of PSU do you have and how big is it? what are you rails like? could be the problem...

the rail question basically means how many amps can it do for each voltage.

    the true430 is fine...i have one and I run my A64 3000+ at a 289Mhz external clock (2600Mhz) and my 6800 at 455Mhz.

I'm hitting the same "wall" as you. On my old rig, this RAM would do 250 all day, on this one 230 is all I can get. I'm using the same chip, OCZ EL 3500, MSI K8N NeoFSR, same PSU. I haven't owned a A64 since the beginning on the year, so I may be missing something here. My settings are as follows 230x11, HT x 4. I have to look at the rest. Maybe it's the bios? I dunno, it's been awhile and that's why I'm looking around.

Re: Wall @ 230FSB need help

There are some bugs with MSI K8N Neo PE.

    - PCI lock only kicks in if AGP is set to 67 or more.
    - System might hang if you set an aggressive overclock from the BIOS, but will not hang if you overclock it with clockgen under Windows. (1.5 beta bios works better with this problem)
    - System hangs if HTT is at ~240 or more and a device is attached in SATA 1 or 2 ports. 3 & 4 have no problem.

I would have gone with the EL PC3200 kit stead of the 3500's personally. I got mine to run 233MHz 2.5-2-2-5 2.65v stable (still testing...shooting for 240 on same settings) I had them at 241MHz 2.5-3-3-5 2.85v before i realized they could run on stock voltage and tighter timings and avtually be MORE stable lmao. Been able to pass super_pi, pcmark04, and NFSU for the last 2 days no problems. Played NFSU for almost 8hrs. and its still going. I think tomo i will go for 235MHz.

(My NB is at 1.8v with a volt mod...i think that really did the trick and allows RAM to fly)
