i see what ya mean. i can't hear a thing the little guy at the bottom of your post is saying.

have you check the volume level in both the control panel multimedia & sound and also the cmedia mixer? both speakers working but no volume?

generally you have to check in both the areas i mentioned above. one of the volume levels may be turned down. there should be an icon in the task bar that brings up the cmedia control panel. have you tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling?

why don't you ask this in the audio forum. they may have some suggestions. make sure you mention that it uses cmedia.

You need to have amplified speakers (the kind that uses its own power supply). The connection is a Line-Out, not a pre-amplified Speaker-Out.

They are Altec Lansing 221 speakers.. As far as im concerned they are powered through the AC outlet. I hear only a FAINT sound in the speakers.

Are you using the rear jacks? And you're on the right one (light green)? And the loopthrough jumpers are in place (unless you got front panel audio connected, see manual)?

So your front audio jacks are of the cheap kind that doesn't loop the signal back in case nothing is connected there. You did the right thing
