hey internet keeps goin down

hi, havent been here in a while but have a question about my highspeed, well it keeps going out on all computers, but on router and modem, the lights blink normal. and a simple unplugging of router and modem then replugging it in, fixes the problem for sometimes up to a week, sometimes a day, is this an ip conflict and will setting a static ip fix this, dont know sh't about networking please help me thanks.

maybe a bug in the firmware, tried updating it?

Might be a firmware bug or overheating problem. My Netgear 624 wireless router overheats and constantly reboots itself if you sit it on the little rubber feet. Works fine in the vertical position with the stand.

i probably should have told you that I bought a new router only to find it does the same thign, over at home depot we have a few routers that went on clearance to 9 dollars wireless too, so im going to pick one up next time i work and give it a shot, but i think its something else, it wouldnt be what I suggested about isp or something, I was under the impression that if you have auto isp it assignes an isp every time, and maybe if two computers in the house had the same one then it would do that, but since i know nothing about isp and all that junk, im gonna just take your suggestions and then if not call the cable company to give us a new router, it never did this before, started probably 4 months ago, and now im tired of it,

Try going without the router and see if the problem goes away. I had a similar problem with my dsl and Verizon was no help at all. I finally switched to cable and all is well now. Afer I switched, I read in the paper that Verizon had hardware problems that they didn't tell me about. I would call the cable company.

please post : router type, dsl router type. ISP and login style ex. PPPOE?

Have you tried just hooking into the dsl router?
Do you have other telephones in the house? Do you have the phone company style of answering service(where you call in to get messages).

If you are getting low download speeds, but much higher upload speed, it is probably heat related causing you to reset.
