    Vantec stealth 120 3pin

Hi Folks, just looking for a few words of advice. I have a Asus A8V, 3200 CPU and a Thermalright XP-120. I want to use a Vantec 120 stealth fan. But, can i plug it straight onto the motherboard CPU fan header, or will i have to use the 3/4 pin adapter. The fan info is - Model: SF12025L - Fan Size: 120x120x25mm - Voltage: 12 V - Current: 0.08 Amp - Airflow: 53 CFM - Power: 0.96 W - Noise: 28 dBA - Speed: 1500 RPM - Bearing: 2 Ball Bearings. I hope someone can give me the info i require :-). I dont wanna fry the board!, but hope to be able to use the mobo header to get use from the sensor.

    Cheers

You'll be fine, I use a bunch of them that way. You should be OK for fans up to .49amps running off the MoBo or you can power them from a molex & use just the yellow wire from the 3 pin so that you can monitor the RPMs.

Not to worry on a Vantec 120mm as it only uses .08amps, I've had .49amp fans on a couple of my rigs for 2 years with no issues, though they do have good PSUs, I suppose a border line one might cause issues.

Mmmm, didnt think of PSU. The one i have at the mo is a Thermaltake Purepower 480W. It has served me well. Do you think i should upgrade the PSU, or will i be ok.

No - thats a decent PSU not to worry!

Don't sweat the low amp fans, anything above .29amps you can switch to molex if your worried but I run .49amps all the time with no problem.

Personally, I don't think that it would matter any way whatsoever. That fan is only drawing a maximum of .96 Watts . I suppose a crappy PSU with inhumanly high noise could cause some fan speed fluctuation.
