Ati- Get with the Program on Pricing!

Just notice that a plain old 9800 pro that has been out for a year is still priced at 230$. I was shopping for vid cards in August and the 9800 pro was... 230$. Meanwhile I see that the 6800 is getting closer and closer to 200$, the 6600gt which waxes the 9800 costs 20$ less than the 9800. Ati has nothing even to compete with Nvidia in the 200$ range and while nvidia continues to put out superior products for the same dollars ATI seems to think that the 9800 Pro is worth more than cards that beat it. When the 6800 does hit the 200-230 mark and the 6600gt will drop too, then the 9800s going down for the count along with any hopes of ATI retaining any share of the midrange graphic card market.

    Hello,

I got my power color radeon 9800pro for 199.00 @mwave.com about a year ago i did have only one issue with the card it died and i sent it back to power color here in california and they sent me a new card with the remaining 2 1/2 year warranty left other than that i know what ya mean the prices on the 9800pro should be down to atleast 99.00 you know i mean its a great card but come on its about 2years old now just like i see some geforce fx 5900 and 5950 ultras they are still 500.00 or more thats BS really

my card only has 128mb of ram but is the 256bit version and not the se model
the core runs at 380 and the memory runs at 680
i did have the arctic silencer on the card before also but i think thats what killed it
so i decided not to put it back on this time out.

You are right man, I was shopping for a 9800 Pro last night and was very surprised to see the 9800 Pro's selling for so much. I bought one in last summer for $179, now I can't even get one for less than $200. So for that price I thought I may as well get something better for a little more so I jumped on an X800SE since the 9800 XT are also very expensive for what it is.

Don't get me wrong the 9800 are fine cards, but charging top rate price for aging technology isn't a very good business strategy.
I can't wait til 6800nu comes down in price - I'll buy if around 200$. But right now seriosly if the geforce 6800 was 25-50$ cheaper it would be identical priced as the 9800.
I think price drops are coming soon and I bet Nvidia will make a killing and ATI will be left with their pants around their ankles wondering how they got screwed.
