^HA.Or just run an SLI board with both an ATi and an Nvidia card.Is that possible?

not with ATi.. not yet anyway, and when ATi does start to use SLI technology (which they will steal from nVidia), then they won't make it possible to work with ATi and nVidia

They arent going to steal it. Theyve been working on it for some time now and its supposedly better.

ATi arent going to steal it! They've got it all sorted and you dont even need an SLI bridge kinda thing, it's all done by their chipset.

Yeah, Ati SLI sounds very cool. Overkill, but definately cool. And two rigs; 1 for Ati games, the other for nvidia games - this will be the moment I decide whether PC gaming has any future for me. Hardware exclusivity is suppossed to be a thing with consoles

Well the other solution is run Nvidia. So far I don't know of any ATI exclusive games, or exclusive shader modes like there are for Nvidia. For example, 2.0++ mode in Riddick, or the special HDR mode for Far Cry. (although I think ATI may have their version, not sure). And this new one your pointing out.

And as far as HL2 is concerned, the highest end ATI cards are faster in it than the highest end Nvidia cards, but there aren't any graphical features that ATI can do in the game that Nvidia can't.

Here are some HL2 benchmarks me and WiseOne did.
    He's running a 6800GT, mines a X800 XL. Both cards are PCIe.

There's a bunch of benchmarking in those threads so I'm not sure which special feature you are referring to. Anti aliasing and ansiotropic are not a special shader mode per se. If that's what your meaning to point out, then yes, the high end ATI cards can run modes of those in that game that Nvidia doesn't offer. But I didn't see any side by side quality comparisons.

I can play the game at the highest settings at 1280x1024 with 4x and 8x on a 6800 Ultra with awesome frame rate in the real world. And it looks great too.

    Cool

Can you donate a 6800 Ultra to me then

Perhaps gaming companies like Ubi can bundle their games with the appropriate graphics card and make up the loss over a number of games sold, similar to Microsoft and the xbox

well... I dunno about donate. Besides, mine would do you no good as it is AGP. A board that would run both has to be PCIe I'm assuming.
