Re: To SLI or not to SLI

I went with the 6800Gt on the poll, I don't think SLI is available but for a handful of applications, some of them not well done with respect to SLI. If that particular handful is the gaming group of your dreams then SLI makes sense, but that's probably a little more for hard core gamers. I personally don't even see a PCIe board, but PCIe Video cards seem to proliferate the reseller market. Probably best for the future.

I do think the ATI based cards render a better screenshot.
There are advantages to being retarded...and I'm taking advantage of all of them.

The adavntage of SLI really only appear at higher resolution ----> http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2284&p=14
If your gonna be playing game @ 1280 x 1024 with 0xAA 0xAF yout wasting your time and money. But run at 1600x1200 with AA and AF then there will be a noticeable difference.... these new Generation cards shine when you turn up the Res otherwise your beeter off sticking with your old cards. SLI is for Higher Res... maybe a X850 can keep up with SLI @ 1280x1024 but turn up the Res,AA, and AF and SLI will show its power. I would go for a 6800GT with a SLI board but StompinRound you said you were on a budget so i voted for the Nforce4 Ultra and 1 6800GT..... its only a few dollars more so if you think you might in the future get the SLI and 1 GT..... Good luck

Re: To SLI or not to SLI

So far I am leaning toward the MSI Nforce4 ultra and 1 6800GT prolly by MSI as well.

I was considering a X800Pro or X800XL but I forgot to mention this PC will be running Windows MCE05, UncleBob pointed me toward his saga on this and there seems be be a little less problems using the Nvidia cards with MCE over the ATI cards at this point.

from what I can see, SLI really does seem to have a ways to go, and if I get 1 card now there could be difficulty in finding a matched card to go with it later.

Keep up the suggestions. Thanks all
