    Building a 7.1 system

Here's what I'm thinking of doing, and would like any feedback from experts.

I have a DFI motherboard with a Karajan audio module capable of 7.1 surround. From the DFI website:

    # Karajan audio module
    - Realtek ALC850 8-channel audio CODEC
    - 6 audio jacks
    - 1 CD-in connector
    - 1 front audio connector
    # S/PDIF-in/out interface

There are 4 speaker jacks: Front R/L, Side R/L, Rear R/L, and center channel/subwoofer. I'm thinking of buying 3 pairs of good computer speakers for the front, side, and rear R/L and a good subwoofer.

    My questions are:

Does this sound like a good approach?

Can anyone recommend any good components?

    Thanks.

    No.
You're talking about onboard sound using the "Realtek ALC850 8-channel audio CODEC"
    Less than desirable.
How much do you want to spend?

I'm not really too sure about how much I'd like to spend. Maybe in the $150-$200 range.

What's wrong with the onboard Codec?
