Re: What distro do you all use?

Fedora 1 & 2, plus Red Hat 7.3 & 9 are at end of life with Fedora Legacy. Guess that means it's finally time to upgrade my main (aging) FC2 desktop box. Sad to see RH7.x finally die - that was my first Linux distro

With Fedora Core 6 Test 2 set to be released July 26th, it is time we announce
the End of Life of our various Legacy supported releases.

After much discussion on fedora-legacy-list and the #fedora-legacy IRC channel
on the freenode network, we have decided to end of life the following
releases when FC6 Test2 is released:

    Fedora Core 1
    Fedora Core 2

This will leave us with supporting just releases 3 and 4 of Fedora Core.

As to our Red Hat Linux releases (7.3 and 9) the following has been decided:

New issues (bugs) will be accepted until October 1st of this year. No new
bugs will be accepted after that mark. All existing bugs will be resolved to
the best of our ability by December 31st of this year. What hasn't been
completed by then will not be completed by the Fedora Legacy project. This
will be the end of Fedora Legacy's support of the Red Hat Linux line of
distributions. We will continue focusing our efforts on the Fedora Core
line, and improving our integration with the Fedora project in whole.

Please watch for more announcements regarding our integration with the Fedora
project, and for schedule information should it change (Fedora Core release
schedules can and do slip from time to time)

Please direct any questions to the fedora-legacy-list@redhat.com email list.

Re: What distro do you all use?

I use one of the 9 distros listed in the poll. I will not name it for that would be "pumping my
    distro". Here is a hint.
It is the only distro on that list that "out of the box" will do ALL of these:
    1. Go on the internet without any set-up
    2. Autostart play a music cd
    3. Autostart play a dvd movie.
    4. Stream every different format of internet radio station feed.
    5. play mp3 files

    Hope this helps some newbie.
    Have a nice day

Re: What distro do you all use?

I am back trying Linux once more, I am dual booting on my Laptop. I used Ubuntu 6.06 this time. I intended to use SUse 10.1 DVD, but It did not work

Now Synapse 13 lists 5 items

I know it did the first, maybe I'll try a movie

    But....

IN my opinion Linux will never amount to a hill of beans till they get lingo lessons from Redmond, how can you expect users to learn a foriegn language like Linux

Illegal aliens don't have to learn English, we accomadate them in Spanish

'Mount' something... take a Moosehead to the Taxidermist?

Sixteen different ways to not install a program?

Wake up and smell the Starbucks ... thats Microsoft Go juice
There are advantages to being retarded...and I'm taking advantage of all of them.

I forget who said it, but "if the clock on your VCR is blinking 12:00 Linux is not for you". I have to mention MEPIS 6.0 because it wasn't on the list. (I voted for other) Also an honorable mention goes to PCLinuxOS.

I used to have that quote in my signature. It's from the Debian Project Leader back in mid-late 90's.

I've been using Xubuntu lately since I got myself an amd64. Sudo drives me nuts, but it'll have to do until I get off my butt and re-install Gentoo.

Can't change my vote, but I'm now using:

Cent 5.2 X86-64, Postfix/Dovecot email, Web, FTP server, and main workstation.

Gentoo - Bind9 DNS Server, Web Server, File/Print Server, Asterisk Server (not complete yet).

One of these days, I'll get it squared away and decide on 1 for a server, and 1 for a workstation, HEHE.

My long time dist SuSE has been abandoned (by me and Novell since it went 'open') after trying release 11. I'm now with the Ubuntu crowd and trying to get Solaris to work. I do miss yast a bit but my old favourite dist is now nothing but utter rubbish.

Re: What distro do you all use?

Interesting, because I found Suse 11.0 a vast improvement on 10.3

Currently I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 until Mint get their version working properly.

Re: What distro do you all use?

My favorite distro was DSL, but it crapped out on me.
Right now I'm temporarily using Xubuntu 8.04. I'm not a big fan of the "buntus, but I already had the CD and XFCE is great.

I want to try some new distros, but I need to get a new hard drive first. =/
