    AGP-to-PCI-E gfx card adapter!

Good news for some, I'm sure (although may prove problematic size wize...):

hopfully it is a flawless solution that works with everything.

my guess is it will probably only work with certain cards on albatron mainboards.

Nice idea, but I can only see it working for 1/2 height cards. For full size cards, they'd be hanging out of the side of the case surely?

not bad.they should lower its profile with the next revisions ..i dont think its compatible with their owne cards only..remember,the last whatever years when they produced agp cards they couldnt have this bugger on mind..

    Re: AGP-to-PCI-E gfx card adapter!

I can see this working even with existing cases. There is at least another 2 inches about where my PCI slots are to the side of the case. This adapter doesn't look taller than 2 inches. The real problem I see is that when you use this adapter only the lower connector will be available for usage since the upper one will be "inside" the case since it is slide up. A quick case mod can fix this though. This may be a godsend (provided it works with all cards) for some of my friends who are really tight on cash but still want to upgrade to nforce4 etc.

    Re: AGP-to-PCI-E gfx card adapter!

bump. New info on the card :

A few days ago we reported, that Albatron has an AGP-to-PCI-Express converter card ready.

Now we know more about it.

The converter is only compatible with the following AGP Video cards from NVIDIA: MX4000, FX5200, FX5700, FX5700LE, GeForce 6800, GeForce 6200.

Since the card uses a bridge chip, performance is degraded a bit. In most cases not much, but sometimes up to 10%.

Installation requires that you remove the AGP card's slot bracket and screw it to the bracket of the ATOP.

The D-Sub output on the ATOP overrides any D-Sub ouput on the video card. Other outputs like DVI and TV-Out remain usable on the AGP card.

The ATOP card will be initially bundled with the AGP6200A VGA card. In the July 2005 time frame, the ATOP card will be available as a separate product.
So... yeah.... now its totally useless for most people..... good job albatron.....

it's a way for those of us who have cards in the 6800 family to move to the Nforce4.

Man, I have been waiting for something like this (so I could keep my 9800Pro a little longer)
but now it appears to be a bust. That sucks!! Thanks for misleading us Albatron, and I liked you guys!

    Re: AGP-to-PCI-E gfx card adapter!

I wouldn't be too worked up over it, a 9800Pro is a nice card, don't get me wrong, but to use it in a new PCI-E build doesn't make a whole lot of sense, especially with the release date of this bridge card around June. Hold on until G70/7800GTX / R520 gets here then you won't need the bridge card.
Hopefully I get a good job this summer, looking into some nice union work

    Re: AGP-to-PCI-E gfx card adapter!

As the massive majority of AGP systems will be long in the tooth by Q3/4, I would expect the AGP versions of the G70 to be both a) lower quantity and selection anb b) more expesive. Less demand = fewer products put out by the OEMs, while a smaller quatity of sold product would cause the overhead of design of the AGP versions to be spread thicker over fewer units sold. Throw in the cost of the bridge chips, and AGP will cost more, at least it will if basic economics actually do work
