    Re: DFI nF4 builder's guide

Thanks THunDA. You're updated and linked.

    Here's another tip.

When using the memtest included in the BIOS. If you want to loop test 5 wait for memtest to open and hit c-1-3-5-enter-enter.

It's a tight fit but it'll go on with no vidcard clearance problems and drops the chipset temp by over 10degC (well, it did for me).
First off, if you are going to remove the stock chipset heatsink, be very careful as you may damage the actual chipset core or the foam that is on the bottom of the heatsink. Secondly, **** the Vantec Iceberq and just apply a small amount of Artic Silver 5 and replace the stock heatsink. It'll sometimes help a good amount because that "gummy" stuff that DFI applies or in some cases forgets to apply isn't the greatest but it still does it's job. AS5 + stock is really all you need. Trust me on this.

    Re: DFI nF4 builder's guide

I never tried to **** an iceberg but I ordered both the Vantec chipset (CCB-A1C) and video card (CCB-A5C) coolers. You're right that for most applications just removing the thermal goop and applying AS5 works. My chipset temps never go over 43°C while priming and the hotest spot on my Video card is on the back of the pcb at one of the RAM chips (54°C) measured with a Raytech thermal gun but I'm going to see what the Vantec coolers do in the interest of science.

Oskar Wu stated that due to a limitation with the Nvidia chipset you will suffer data corruption with SATA HDs when running the CPU above 240MHz on SATA 1 & 2. SATA 3 & 4 will work however.
Oops, my bad. There problems with the nF3 boards but it was corrected with nF4.

I'm not having any problems either with SATA devices at high htt with my ultra-d, I have a 120gb SATA drive on 1 and a 250gb SATA drive on 2, both have been working fine at up to 280htt.

I'm looking at the sata cables now and they are plugged into ports 1 & 2.

Not saying there aren't issues for some but I know for a fact mine has been running perfect using sata ports 1&2 up to at least 280htt without any issues, just for the record.
