which styles would you like to keep the most?

there is a new version of vbulletin in beta now. we will be upgrading to this new version when it is stable and final. all of the visual styles will be recoded from scratch and we will be dropping some of them due to time constraints. we will be keeping a total of 6 out of the ones we have now. 2 of the 6 that we are definately keeping are...

    1. pcp default v1.0
    2. amdmb legacy

the rest will be up to you. above is a poll that lists all of the other styles. please take a moment to vote on the ones you would most like to see return. the 4 with the most votes will be ported over to the new version. the rest will go. please keep in mind that 6 is the total that we are porting over. this means that each of the 6 will not include a right style in addition to the original so if you want to see a right style, make sure you vote for it.

    thanks.

it looks like pcp, amdmb right, amdmb, and amdmb flat right are the ones that will be carried over to the new vb3.5 upgrade. i will give this a final bump since vb3.5 is just around the corner. the poll will close in one week with the 4 highest scoring choices being carried over along with the amdmb legacy and default v1.0 styles.

this is your last chance to be heard on this matter. cmon ppl...get those votes in!

Re: which styles would you like to keep the most?

upon investigation, we found 2 users who used different accounts to skew the results of the poll. it is not important who they are. they know who they are and should be ashamed of themselves. this is very distressing. we posted this poll in hopes that we would get honest responses from our member base. while most of you did respond honestly (we really appreciate that!) there were 2 who didnt (for shame!).

i have altered the poll to remove the votes that were made by different accounts held by the same user. the changes are below and jimzinsocal can confirm our findings as well as the edits:

    pcp flat dark (-1 vote)
    pcp flat (-1 vote)
    amdmb flat right (-1 vote)
    pcp (-3 votes)
the new totals are now reflected in the poll above.

this now makes these styles that will be kept:

    amdmb
    amdmb right
    amdmb flat right

with a tie between pcp flat and pcp flat dark. we are unsure at this time how we are going to handle the tie. the result of the tie breaker will be shown when we go live with the 3.5 upgrade.

sorry folkes but the poll is now closed in light of the recent findings.

well...the new outcome is listed in the above post:

    http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.p...13&postcount=4

as for the tie...i have left it to the mods in a private poll. they will be the tie breaker. a 3rd option was included in the poll for an entirely different style instead of the 2 that are tied. if that option wins the poll...that style will be a surprise.

What else can we expect with 3.5?

one of the more notable things for most will be the inclusion of full text searching. this should fix the rather large search problems we are currently experiencing.

with 3.5, jelsoft has included a new hooks system. this new system allows for file level edits without actually editing files (thus preventing violation of warrenty) through products and plugins. this opens wide the door to many more modifications/customizations. ever read through the suggestions forum (or seen me post in threads in OT or elsewhere) that we couldnt do this or that because it would require file level edits and it would void warrenty? well...that problem has just about been taken out of the equation. this also makes things much easier on the admin side to upgrade forum software in the future.

this new release also brings a new ajax system in to play (dont ask me to explain it because i dont fully understand it yet...lol) but you can search for it at vbulletin.com where it is discussed. its through this system that some of the new tools are made possible. quit edits, inline moderation, etc. how does this help users? it becomes much easier to edit thread titles and posts. the inline moderation and quick edit features do benefit staff more so than the end user...but it does bring the above mentioned benefits to the end user. it also allows for on the fly switching between standard and wysiwyg editors (no more going into the control panel to switch it) as well as adjust the text area size at the click of a button.

there really is too much to list and explain at this point. ill try to work up a tutorial to be available at launch that will explain some of the new features, how to use them, etc...

i will also try to provide a list of plugins that will be installed.

thats what i should have done to begin with. it might have prevented this.

you can make book that in the future...it will be that way. just kinda gets me is all. i mean we truly value our members input. when we ask for members input...all we have ever asked is for honest answers/suggestions/feedback...good or bad.

yes that would be complicated. good suggestion though.

as of right now...we dont have plans for any additiional styles save for one that i promised a little while ago.

thats not to say more wont come later down the road...but for a little while anyways...there wont be any new ones coming.
