Tonight though is smoked pork tenderloin with home-made BBQ sauce and rub. I put some wood chips in a tinfoil packet in the gas grill to get the smoke going. Sides are oven fries seasoned with paprika and rosemary and green beans.

Picked up Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale to wash it all down

Re: What is O-Dog having for supper tonight?

last night was pulled pork with homemade BBQ sauce, corn and blackbean salad and a green salad. drink of choice was again the Shoals Pale Ale from the other day

The meat was a pork shoulder (bone in, but either way works) cooked in a crock pot. I used a can of coors light and a bottle of cheap bbq sauce as the liquid. The alcohol helps break down the meat and make it tender. The bbq sauce is acidic to help this along too, but it adds a bit of flavor (not much though so don't spend too much on it). This went from 8am until 7pm, at which point it was taken out and pulled using two forks. Its basically falling apart by this point so pulling is easily. Toss with your favorite bbq sauce (mine was homemade) and serve on kaiser rolls. pretty easy and absolutely delicious. My dad and i have smoked a pork shoulder on the gas grill which tastes better, but its tough to get it low enough to cook all day while generating enough smoke. this is a nice alternative method.

The corn and blackbean salad is canned corn and black beans with chopped onions and cilantro. Add olive oil, lemon and lime juices and toss together. It does best if it sits an hour or 2 to let the flavors mingle. It makes a great summer side dish.

    Also great: Leftovers!

My dad and worked on this the other night to use up some old wine that was lying around. Beef Bourguignon. Basically a classic French Beef stew using red wine, onions, mushrooms, carrots and a little bit of bacon on top.

sorry if its a bit blurry!

    Monday evening:

Hors d'Ourves: Roquefort stuffed peppers (don't remember exactly which kind, kinda sweet, kinda spicy)
Main Course: Homemade Vodka Rigatoni with prosciutto, Baby spinach salad with tomato, feta cheese and Dijon balsamic vinagarette.
    Dessert: Peach and Blueberry Cobbler

Drink: Weyerbacher Blanche. A belgian style Wit beer from a brewery that is 10 minutes from where I went to school.

All in all a very nice labor day meal

Re: What is O-Dog having for supper tonight?

these have been dark days for O-dog's dinner plans! My parent have been out of town and I haven't had the time to do any real cooking. I mean, the other night i had BK for dinner!

I'm going to have to push for a return to form saturday night, I'm thinking gyros with tzatziki sauce. Any suggestions?

A couple weeks ago, my dad and I watch an episode of "Bobby Flay: Throwdown" where he was having a grilled cheese cook-off against these people who own a grilled cheese restaurant. We were inspired to try his recipe:

The cheese are Brie and Boucheron (a goat cheese):

Bacon is a key element (theres tomato hiding under there too!)

    the finished product:

Best grilled cheese ever. The goat cheese helps offset the milder brie, and the whole combination is amazing

    bonus moneyshot:

Made a pork roast last night. Rubbed with paprika, salt, pepper and rosemary. roasted that baby up for about 90min and BAM! deliciously juicy. Most recipes call for internal temps of 165 when cooking pork, but I find that if you pull it out at about 145 and let it rest a bit before slicing, you end up with a final temp of about 155-160, which is perfect for it to be fully cooked, but not dried out (a common problem with pork)

Served it up with some mashed potatoes and lemon-rosemary Brussels Sprouts. Washed it all down with a Spaten Munchen Dunkel

Inspired my "Man vs Food" we had extreme burger night yesterday. I wish I had taken pictures because words won't do it justice.

I'll describe the layers top to bottom ...

    Top Cristini bun
    Lettuce
    Tomato slice
real bacon (we usually eat turkey bacon)
    one fried egg
    grilled onions
    melted Swiss cheese
    1/3 pound Angus burger
    honey smoked BBQ sauce
    Bottom Cristini bun

I don't want to even think about how much fat, calories & cholesterol was in it but it was DELICIOUS !!!
