    Re: tempting ......

Yep ... so temptimg I couldn't resist - had to pull the trigger.
Anxious to see how the Purple FRN2's OC compared to these Golden Flames.
The last refurbs they had were the non-RAID "L" boards. Which didn't appeal to me since
    they don't have SATA.

Which reminds me ... was it ever established if the Purple boards went to three phase
power? Seems there was a rumor going around. The capacitor layout has changed that's
    for sure. Among other things.

I might want one of these 29 dollor boards been considering SATA also can one disable SMART in the bios?
That is why I wanted to download a manual to check out all the features
    Thanks!

Oh yeah. The "RL" will definitely have SATA/RAID. Both the "L" and "RL" boards use the same
nVidia Southbridge far as I know. They are virtually identical except the "L" lacks
SATA, Promise RAID controller, or third IDE header.

Only thing is ... to use just one SATA drive on the Promise controller you must set up a
"single disk RAID array". Sounds strange but pretty simple actually.

If by SMART you mean the "ABS" (SmartDoc Anti-Burn shield) not sure if you can
disable that or not. Always change mine to shutdown at 70c. Has never come close
    to that temp fortunately.

thanks for the reply .. by "Smart" I am refering to hard drive SMART that monitors the hard drive in case of a pending failure and monitors temps of the drive.. pretty usless feature IMO and it does slightly slow down hard drive access

Thanks for the info .. dang looks looks I will pass on the refirb, might just be better off just buying a SATA card and adding that instead of buying that board

    edit :
just downloaded the manual , The board uses the prommise raid controller which can be disabled by a jumper . I was hoping that this board used the new nvidia raid south bridge
but that model would be the FRN3-RL , now that would be a worthy upgrade IMO for SATA support. Shame New egg does not have one of those boards I would be all over that!

How frustrating ... ... just opened the box to discover a Golden Flame board - "ver: E3".
Already have one of these, and a "ver: D" as well.

To be honest, was looking forward to the AGP card lock most of all. Which the Golden Flame
do NOT have. Guess I'll have to rig up something else as this long & heavy 6800 card coming
loose in the slot has been a real problem.

One plus - the included SATA cables with the new board have the 90 degree ends now.
