    CAT 5 cable...

I have been looking for a while for a the cheapest bulk amount of CAT5 cable for a little while now and have come up with this:

    http://www.dealsonic.com/genetco10cac.html ($40 + $16 S/H)

I am looking to use this to make my own cables for lan parties, as it is always a problem... no one I know has decent length cables

Has anyone else found a better deal? I need a pair of crimpers, which makes this deal more apealing..

Check out Deepsurplus. I installed 8 ports all wired to a single switch when I remodeled my basement last summer. I didn't buy bulk wire because I didn't want to deal with the crimping. I just bought premade CAT6 cabled of various lengths. I cut one end because I needed bare wires to go into the wall port but the plug on the other end just plugged right into the switch. They are quite inexpensive at that place. My network is in constant use and I've had no problem with the cables I bought from them.

I really don't mind the crimping at all... I make enough of them at work

Those cables are pretty cheap though and would make this easier since my friends can now buy the cables

That's the best deal you'll find right there. It comes with the gigabit cable, crimper, and tester. $56 isn't bad.

If you just want the cable, here's the cheapest I could find: http://store.yahoo.com/pctekonline/baf10feetcat.html (note: not CAT5E, no support for gigabit)

Fry's had a deal the other day for $35 for 1000ft of cat5e. They probably don't have it anymore but you might wanna keep an eye out there.
