My new DFI Nforce4 board has two built in gigabit LAN ports, and I'm wondering what is the purpose of the second LAN port? Is it there just in case I want to do internet connection sharing with another PC? Does it work like Dual-Channel RAM where my connection can be sped up if I have two simultaneous connections (this may be a dumb guess ;-) ?? Can someone fill me in?
You only get the advantages of gigabit when its fully used, most broadband connections for instance only use 1.5/3 Mbps download so you'd rarely see any advantages there.
On the otherhand, if your running internal servers to your LAN and have more then 10 x 10/100 connections accessing the server at the same time that is where dual gigabit comes in handy. ( Of course you need a gigabit switch and would be advised to be using cat6 wiring, for at least the dual gigabit connections.)
