    Networking Newbie Help Please

    Hi,

Heres the setup, desktop PC with Netgear PCI wifi card, acer laptop with built in wifi and a netgear 834 (router, modem etc) downstairs in the closet.

I have set up the system so that we can use the internet from both PC's but now i am stuck.

I want to share a hard drive (ie the one with all the data on) currently E: that is on the desktop pc and i want to be able to print from my laptop to one of 2 printers connected to the desktop.

I have Jeff Duntemanns WIFI guide but i just cannot seem to get my head around how to set it up.

Can anyone please take me through in easy steps how to set up the system,

    thanks

    jon

Make sure both machines are part of the same workgroup (not strictly necessary on XP and w2k, but good form nonetheless). Set up identical accounts, with identical passwords, on both machines. Share the resources you wish to share.

We also have some good links in our Networking and Security forum Member Recommended Links sticky post. Have a look at the sites under Wireless and Internet Sharing.

Do you have either the Windows firewall or some other software firewall running on the laptop?

Temporarily disable it and see if VNC works. If it does, you need to configure NIS to allow comunnication (let VNC listen for connections) on the laptop.
