    Two ram questions

    1. My brother is building a X2 rig with no intentions of overclocking and wants a gig of ram. So really, he just wasnts reliable ram thats also fast.

    2. Me on the other hand, I plan to buy a Venice and overclock it. Ive been kinda out of the loop with ram since the winbond twinmos and buffalo days (2 years ago?). I know about tccd but Idont really hear anybody talk about that anymore...price is kind of a issue but at the same time I want a nice gig of some nice ram to match with my nforce4 board(not sure which one I want yet though).

    Thanks!

Are you planning or do you play BF2? Reason I ask is BF2 almost requires 2 gigs of ram to function properly. I just went through a few different types of 2x1G memory. Course I didnt care about price so I ended up with the Ballistix. I have heard rumor that the crucial value line uses the same chips as Ballistix or UCCC. The UCCC are the same chips that are on the top of the line 2x1G kits from Mushkin and OCZ.

    Re: Two ram questions

BF 2 will be the main game I'll be playing. I was planning to purchase a gig now then another 512 later. Right now, I use my brother's 3000+ Barton/FIC AU11(NF2)/9600 XT/ 512mb Twinmos CH-5/ to play BF2 right now but the settings are on low-medium because it jitters here and there if I try and increase it.

You have me considering purchasing 2 gig sticks now. But if I do that, I will just one for now.

I have 1.5 gigs and it plays just fine. 1 gig caused stuttering, I think the game requires a min of 1.25 gigs to play at decent res.

i have 2 gb of PDP patriot 3200 xblk and when i play bf2 with all settings on high(except shadows on low and textures on med) i am using 1.5-1.65 gig of ram.

you really need 2 gigs to run this game properly.

crappy memory managment in the game.

    Agreed and AGREED!!!

If you run 1Gig x 512 I think your gonna be running the 2t command rate. Put quite simply thats not a good thing for maximum performance..

so 1 gig x 2 is the way to go? Is the Nforce4 like the Nforce2 where the ram should be paired together, or it doesnt matter?(obviously im going to get the same brand and style ram though)

    Re: Two ram questions

I was running 1g of the ram in my system specs for BF2 and was getting the jitters occasionally. I stuck a stick of Geil 512 in and made a huge difference so I agree that it takes at least 1.5 to run smoothly.
