Stock voltage is for kids. You gotta give your Optys some volts!

3Ghz is for kids I'm just giving my Shin Etsu some time to 'settle'. After that i'm going for a lot more then 3.0Ghz. i hope...
The way it looks my Opty should be able to do 3.0Ghz at 1.45-1.475v or something.

Re: Opteron - Best stepping & more?

From what i've seen with both my Venice and this Opteron, a much lower temp doesn't even help overclock that much. (compared to AthlonXP) Of course you will be able to feed it more volt and that will allow you to overclock it higher.

That's still quite a bit faster then a FX-57 for just a fraction of the price.

Re: Opteron - Best stepping & more?

have just installed my Opteron 146 (CABYE 0540 FPBW) into my Epox 9nda3+ motherboard. I am using pretty ordinary OCZ PC3200 memory (Ballistix arriving tomorrow ) and am really struggling to get the chip stable beyond 2.6Ghz.

I have taken the memory out of the equation with a very low divider and I know the motherboard is happy up to 310HTT as I was able to run my Venice 3000 at 300 * 7 with no problems.

I can get the system stable at 2500 with 1.45v but after that I am really struggling. I can't get it rock solid stable at 2.6Ghz unless I am pushing 1.625 volts through the chip (bios setting is 1.625 but CPU-Z etc show .05v lower?) and anything beyond that is not prime stable.

My results seem the worst I have seen for this chip (by some distance) and am inclined to think it is my inexperience at overclocking that is contributing.
I would really appreciate any helpful pointers anyone can provide.

    Many thanks

Yeah i'd like to see that too, 3.0Ghz at stock voltage is REALLY good.

Rulocal: post some information about the rest of your system. Especially your PSU.
