    raptor problems

I just got two 36 gig raptors and i have an Abit av8 motherboard. Everything is hooked up and running but i am having problems with the benchmarks. i am running the raptors in raid 0 with the built in via raid controller on the motherboard. my hd tach scores do not look like the one that are built in as reference. the line jumps up and down constantly. They burst good at about 180 but it doesn't hold anywhere near constant. Falling into the 60's and back to 180 about 15 times in the test. Does this sound familiar to anyone? The graph looks like a sawtooth sinusoidal.

Please run the test again using the "long bench (32 meg zones)" option. If possible, please post a pic of the results.

That is strange. Is that on the VIA VT8237 controller? What stripe and cluster sizes have you set?

yes it is the 8237 and I believe it is 32k, it shows 64k in the raid tool but i am certain it was set to 32 when i created the array in the raid rom. I can't find anyone with a similar problem on the internet. I thought it may be a conflict with one of my other devices or something similar so i striped it down to bare bones and benched it with the same results. This is frustrating to say the least. I have set up raid systems before with no problem but this sucks.

We've only seen that on a VIA based board once or twice, and I don't remember what the fix was. I'll try to find it.

Well, I sure hope that you can help me out because I have tried virtually every version of the driver available for this controller, and flashed to the latest bios but nothing seems to work. Oh and I am using a ti4400 right now so it is not the documented problem with the radeons either.

What else is running in the background? Looks to me like something else keeps trying to access the drive.

    Re: raptor problems

The forum search function is spitting up errors, so it may take me a while to find the past cases of this. In the meantime, please refer to the forum help stickey and run the ATTO benchmark as well.

Don't know if this matters on that chipset, but I had similar hdtach results and I fixed it by adjusting pci latency higher.

    Re: raptor problems

I am sure it is nothing running in the background as I ran my benchmarks as soon as i installed windows and my drivers. I have also tried playing with the pci write master, delay, and such. I don't think that should matter anyways but I gave it a shot. Anyone else have any ideas? I know it isn't the drives as well because my two black top wd 8 megs do the same thing. HELP.

I haven't been able to find info on this in back posts yet. Have you run the ATTO benchmark yet?

change the overlapped I/O to "neither" and leave the size set to 32 megs, and re-run the tests please.
