Indeed, it looks to be one helluva drive.

Has anyone besides me noticed that, yet again, NCQ is clearly shown to be more hype than real benefit, in the context of the type of use that most of them will be put to (not in servers)?

    BWM,

They didn't mention 2 different versions of the drive which I had read about elsewhere. Maybe its not true but we will see.

NCQ questionable again? Well the drive is still a rocketship if production drives are anything like the reviewed drive.

Indeed it is! I just mentioned NCQ because the benefits of NCQ and more importantly, in which usage scenarios they can be realized, has been widely misunderstood from the get-go. SR's review definately helps bring that fact to light. I can't wait to get one

After reading that review. Do you think for the "most bang for your buck," is two 74gb Raptors in RAID 0, OS/APP drive only, than the single new Raptor at a $300 price tag? Reason for my asking is because I will be buying a new HD setup soon and while the new Raptor is nice it doesn't seem enough to warrant a 100% increase in price. It is new through so I guess it is to be expected.

While the Raid 0 is larger, maybe faster for load times and dependent on use it also increase risk because of two drives.

If you wait 6 months the price will decrease. I would also guess 74 rapts will get cheaper now.

apparently there is 'slight' firmware differences between the enterprise raptor and the raptor X with the raptor X being geared more towards single user environments. I suppose we will have to wait for a comparison of the two drives side by side to see if this holds true.

I've been hoping WD would market a derivative optimised for that since their introduction.
