I 've seen that a few other teams have taken up the challenge too, what was to be expected !

We just are going to have to convert every dual box to SMP !

Others, with single core (fast) rigs can always go the X1950Pro route, OR start replacing their rigs with dual & quad cores !

(sorry to say, but it 's true, the C2D's are doing better with SMP than the AMD64X2's, for now)

I think we could have an edge on a lot of the other teams though, we're right up there when you divide team ppd by active members, so there's a chance that we could do quite well out of anything that increases the ppd per folding box.

There's no doubt that the C2D is an impressive Folder, but anyone who has a single core S939 system should look around for bargains on X2's or 165/170/175 Opterons, they're still out there.

What would be great is a Quad Core in a socket 929 configuration !!!

If each of us could add a X1900 or X1950, that would make a helluva difference!

    So far I've found:

    A64 Venice @ 2.6ghz - 23 minutes per frame
ATI x1950pro - Just under 8 minutes per frame

    Hey BWM,

Go LINUX SMP client and get some bang for your buck now.

It isn't hard. We just had one little stumble and after that it worked.

The install was really totally automated and quite simple.

    Do it.

Does the distro support SATA hard drives on VIA's VT8237 southbridge?

It worked on my Dell Inspiron 1705 Notebook with a SATA drive. The beauty of it is that the install CD/DVD is also a bootable working version so you can fire it up and see what it detects on your system before you try to install it.

That 's right; a lot of distro's have taken this brilliant idea from KNOPPIX (I believe); it 's certainly the 1st distro I knew of being able to do that and I tried it out more than a few years ago !

It worked 100% then, it will now !

I watched even a complete DivX film on a system booted with Knoppix; it had a lot of goodies of which was one Xine multimedia player: good stuff !

OK we have BWM tilting; lets push a little harder.

    BWM - Make time !

You know you don't have to go it alone either.

    It is a simple install.

Just remember to apt-get the 32 bit library.

Anyone notice that little 100K/ppd mark about to roll over?

    Go go go.

Just keep adding those gpus and smps and we will go over the top.

I have another rig to upgrade.

A new motherboard and a new processor and we are working.

Can't do it until after the first of the year bro. Too much going on here right now and all me rigs are currently crunching p1166 and p1167 units. But I will, count on it!
