Unhappy My new Dell Ultrasharp 2405 crashing my games HELP!

Well i just received my Dell ultrasharp 2405 the other day and am very pleased with it, but i hadent tried any games yet so today i decided to to try them out.

I am having trouble with my games. The whole system seems to freeze up on my after 30 mins of play, sometimes it happens after just 10 seconds, requiring me to do a system reboot.

The games i had trouble with were san andreas (which i could play for 30 mins) then i played earned in blood (could play for 30 mins, then lastly quake 4 (which only made it for 10 seconds), in all the cases i had changed the resolutions to 1600x1200. When quake 4 dies after 10 seconds at that resolution i restarted my system then stared the game switching the resolution down to 800x600 to see if maybe my graphics card was the culprit.... NOPE same thing happened after 10 seconds, the whole screen froze, requiring another system reboot.

Does anybody have any idea WTF is going on here?!?!

Some side info: MY LCD is using DVI and i have the desktop refresh rate set to 60mhz, im running a X850XT PE (PCIe) using omegadrivers (5.12) along with ATi tray tools (1.0.5.820) All the games i have ran i was using the (manual) fan control setting it to 100% so there wasent an overheating issue.

Im really not sure if this is a gpu driver issue, or if my X850 just dosent have enough juice but i thought id try here with you guys first. If i should be posting to a different kind of forum could you be nice enough to point me in the right direction. I just spent a shit load of $$$ on this lcd and having this issue of mine really makes me mad but im hoping that the fix is an easy one.

    Thnx. $$

OK, you've got a very bizarre problem there. In short, a monitor can't crash a system, so there has to be some other variable we're missing. What display did you switch from, and what connection type were you using?

My old monitor was a samsung 1100df 21" CRT. Using D-sub.

I am using DVI for this dell.

I have been fumbling around a bit since the last post, since then i have reinstalled the omega driver to reflect the 6.1 ati driver. Removed the dell driver. Tried both DVI slots on back of card. Tried the D-sub output. Then Reinstalled quake. NOTHING IS WORKING!

Of note, (dont know if it makes a difference) when im getting the lock up i hear a small loop of sound, like the sound or words that were being played or said right before the thing crashed, that bit plays over and over and i cant tab-alt or ctrl alt del. my way out of the crash. I have already ruled out the sound card as i had set it to minumum acceleration. Eh food for thought.

Hahah, I like your title, like your new monitor is really crashing your computer! Sounds like your overclocked system can't handle the resolution of the new monitor. I'd try not overclocking first of all then try lowering you resolution and turn off the eye candy in games and see what happens. Check your tempatures while you are at it. If the lower resolutions work good then it may be time for a video upgrade. This monitor works great with my 4800+ X2 and EVGA 7800GTX 512 and I run at 1920X1200 with BF2 and everything maxed out.

    Reset the OCcing on setup
    Get official driver for now
    Now defrag
Clean out driver with a driver cleaner
make sure you have the DX9c or newest
    Reinstall game
Run game and if its all fine it a few things

Heat can make you crash right away, so can ocing too much or it can be stable gaming 20mins then gets unstable then crash.
Also some game engines just don't run stable when on a OCED setup, a lot told me ocing Far Cry will crash in under 20mins

ONLY thing I don't like about this LCD

You lose contrast adjustment with DVI

Yet since I added a Audigy 2 ZS PLT PRO with an external hub, came with a remote I can adjust the monitor display. All adjustments I also added the Logitech Z5500 505 watt THX put the 5.1 on on optical thur the external hub instead of sound that came with it.

I like the 2405 and tell you cant go wrong the 2405 and now down to $829 on sale maybe I get one more for FX55 setup

You did not bother to redo your steps to see if it has a bad effect on something ?

the Dell 2405 FPW is a Samsung.

Look into ATI and DELL LCD driver trouble on googles or some other related searches ,this is all a first time I heard of this.

Jeez i forgot to get back to you guys.

I had posted my problem in another forum and a member there suggested trying to up my vcore on the cpu. I really didnt see why i would have to do that because my computer had been working flawlessly since july (as i have already established here), why would a monitor addition require me to up my vcore a lil bit?

Well after trying SEVERAL suggestions (and i thank each and every one of you guys ((THNX GOD FOR THE FORUMS!)) i decided i didnt have anything to lose by upping the vcore a notch. So i did.

I dont know why a simple vcore increase has suddenly made me be able to play quake now, but i had played for 1 hour 20 mins straight with out a single problem, not a lock-up or nothing!

I guess you can put this one in the X-files huh?
