Re: AMDMB Members' Recently Purchased Items Thread

I had given my wife my old HP laptop that I got 11-2008, it is a 17 inch Turion II powered machine that has seen a lot of use, but she thought it too big for portability. She uses it daily hooked up to a 55" LG Plasma. I had upgraded it to 8.1 Pro and so she happily uses her Surface and the Laptop. (Meanwhile her 14" Leveno languishes upstairs) She uses two desktops upstairs and the portable stuff downstairs. She takes her Surface most everywhere.

Rounded out the Dead Space series with Dead Space 2 for PS3 for under $10 new. Haven't seen it cheaper.

It's just an amazing game! I haven't really played survival-horror games before, but this was always intriguing. I got it as part of a Humble Bundle and have enjoyed it.

Maxing out the CPU by upgrading to a brand-new used Core X6800 off an Amazon seller. Bills are paid, but given I have other financial goals for the future, a full-scale rig update ain't in the works. $60 is about the cheapest way I can see to upgrade on an old LGA775/P965. I could buy new, but those still run at $400-500 (which is still a steal compared to the original asking price).

It was an easy sell to the wife versus $500 or so for the CPU/MB/RAM and probably PSU upgrade, not to mention a helluva lot faster to swap out.

You know with a couple of my MSI 990FX GD80 V2 boards with on-board Lossless 24-bit/192 Khz HD audio, I have moved away from add on sound cards, but that Soundblaster Z looks pretty good.

Of course I don't have my ears assaulted at work by those building mechanicals'

I seriously did not think an add in card would make a bit of difference. I picked it up at BB for $79, and am really impressed with the change in sound quality.

Were you using another sound card before? or ever? I still have a sb x-fi extreme music, does decent enough, I like the 3d positional sound it does when using headphones, the drivers are a nightmare though, and I don't remember the last time they were updated.

Is the driver situation better with that card? How does it compare to your last card? Does it still simulate 3d sound with headphones?

was using on-board, not sure of the codec on a 990FX R2.0? Drivers are solid, and yes great 3d through my headphones, I am very pleased with the purchase.

Not tech related, but I did order a new garbage disposal off Amazon. I need to get this done. I also need to buy a battery for my Explorer, but 1 project at a time or I won't get anything done.

Also, bought the Kinect for my 360 after one of my kids just had to have a Sesame Street game that required it and I think it will be easier to use than the Wii and Wiimote for their age.
