Need info to choose, AGP 6800GS or 7800 GS ?
Monitor will be Dell 2005FPW (in transit)
Rest of system is :
Thermaltake Xaser .... (errr a large heavy dark thing with many many fans)
Gigabyte 7NNXP/Mobile XP @ 210*11.5 = 2.415Ghz
2*512 Corsair XMS XL 2-2-2-11 (1:1)
Sounblaster Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro/Logitech Z-680
2 x WD Raptor 74GB
Antec TruePower 550
never could get the system stable much past 210. Can only give the Ram 2.8v :O(
Now, if I could confirm the DDR Booster would work...but that would be another thread
I am looking only at the EVGA CO models of the two, as they have the highest oob clockspeeds, and no ones come with games.... yet.
The 6800 model is roughly 230, and the 7800 model is 319.
7800 clock speed 460/1350 16 pipes
6800 clock speed 400/1100 12 pipes
How much faster is that 7800 percentage-wise. I am a little concerned about horsepower, I have become addicted to 1680x1050 on the lappy. Lappy is great for its time and the Go6800 in laptop, scores identically in 3dmarks with my nephews box (just put a normal 6800GSagp card in for him). Ounce for ounce, FPS was about 5-7% better on his tower. AFAIK the only difference between our graphics hardware, is mine is PCI X interface in the lappy, and his is AGP Card.
Placed in the tower specs above, would the 7800 handle upcoming games better than the 6800, to a degree worth the price diff ?
Thinking about things like UT 2007, Neverwinter Nights 2, Oblivion, Quake IV yeah I know its been out, Diablo 3 (no seriously, they are making it right now, secret developer center in my closet)
.......
I do not have the $$$ for upgrade to S939/Opty/PCI Platform.
Thoughts ?
TY as always, Chewie
