Ram suggestion for Athlon 64 rig.

I'm considering ram for an Athlon 64 rig I'm building (either a 3500+ Venice or 3700+ San Diego) and I'm curious how picky I need to be. I hear some of the processors are picky about dual channel. Is this true?

I actually wanted to buy a 1GB stick now and throw in a second one a little bit down the road when I get a bit more cash. And I was planning to just go with Corsair Value ram to save on the $$. (this rig will most likely not be OCed).

so will corsair valueram work well with these processors if I start off with a 1GB stick? Or is it gonna hose me until I get set up with dual channel?

Shouldn't be any problem running a single 1 gig stick on a E core chip until you can get another one to match it. It'll be running in single-channel until you get a second stick but the performance hit isn't much, 10-15 percent, in most cases.

I would go to mobo manufactuer's site for the board you're considering and have a look at the manual.
Should tell you everything you want to know about memory config.
I just built a MSI Neo4 rig for my nephew with a 3000 Venice and stuck in 2x512 Corsair value.
Runs beautifully. @ $82.00 for the pair it was a nice price.

Kingston Value Ram has been very good to me for a few years now. Especially their 2x1 GB kits.

...and me too on my XP-M rig for 2 years - 2x1gb Corsair VALUE O/C @ 2.5-3-3-7 (although 1 stick did fail after 10 months)

Gonna get another Corsair VALUE 1GB stick for my new FX-55 rig and pinch one from my XP-M rig (now downgraded to a 24/7 'cctv/wireless internet connection sharing' server)
