Need verification: Can you remove AS5 with isopropyl alcohol?

Hey guys,
I have read artic silver's website and several threads on the this forum but I am still a little confused. You use isopropyl alcohol to clean the heatsink and cpu before thermal paste application, but does that cleaning include old thermal paste?

Yes, it works great, and you can buy 90% plus isopropyl at the hardware store, maybe even the grocery/drug store.

TIMClean is all I use, nothing else is needed!!

I just use regular rubbing alky to remove it.

92% or better isopryl (rubbing alcohol) on a q-tip works best for me.

Arctic Silver now has a cleaner and conditioner that I use and recommend. Clean half a heatsink with alcohol and the other half with the new cleaner and you will see what I mean (go back on the alcohol side with the arctic silver cleaner with a clean rag and look at it after you wipe it). Using lower % of isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol contaminates the heatsink with impurities contained in those products.

It's another way for them to make money. Goo Gone then use alcohol, alcohol alone or TIMClean all work and well, but if you go to AS5 site you'd think their stuff is the only thing that works safely.

Cool. Thanks for all the information everyone. I used 91% isopropyl alcohol and it worked great. My new system is up and running without a hitch
