Question What is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

Measured by percentage of OC above stock speed, what is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

Please list by exact model and/or stock speed rating. Thank you.

Didnt the 3100 sempron get like a 50% OC boost with stock hsf? Thats pretty big IMO.

    50 percent? Pffft!

Last I heard, it was a guy called 'Fugger'. Here's his project thread:

A very serious rig, but it looks like he's found some competition since I last caught up with how his rig was running...

On air, I found the best was an P4 1.6A - it ran fully stable for several months at 2.72GHz, a 70% overclock. Next best was an old 600 Duron, which I could keep stable on air at 1016MHz - about 67% overclock. In their time both were highly regarded. The old AXIA 1GHz Athlons were pretty good too.

    1700+ DLT3C T-Bred

    1470MHz stock > 2601MHz on air.

    1131MHz oc = 77% oc.

    http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7678877

    That was almost 2yrs ago & I'm still running that same (0310 = 10th week of 2003) 1700+.

I did get 50% out of my 3100+ Sempy too & some mobile Bartons (2500+/1.83G) did get 50% (2.7G, give or take) too.

    Next?

My Duron 600 does 1050, my sempron 64 2600 does 2670. All on air.

Re: What is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

sempron s754 that does 2.85-2.9 on air(stock cooler but i prefer a zalman type with a quiter fan,say 35db as opposed to 50db+ i was using b4 with s462 mobiles ),stock is 1.4 so thast over 100%

ps my rig is setup as such that if the cpu fan dies or stops, and if the mobo dun shutdown itll run at 65c but wont die i want to see other such works..

how much voltage are you putting through that 2500?

Re: What is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

well I consider the athlon xp 1700+ on the tbred b core and the sempron 3100+ on e6 core to be one of the best overclockers

penitum 4 2.4ghz on the northwood core

the Athlon 2500+, Barton core perhaps, probably better before they locked them

if you want to go way back further than that, the Celeron 300Mhz cores based on the flip chip array package

    also, the celeron 2.66Ghz

those are some of the better ones I reckon

the less expensive CPU's always seem to have higher OC margins on percentages

i set it at 1.65 but it gives around 1.63 according to speedfan.temps are good too.got soem stupid thermal paste in tehre, too lazy to change it...same temps with stock cooler and as5...
ram's keeping me down, this biach does 2.9 on 1.65 volts dead, not 1.63...so i guess with water or soemthing liek that itll do 3 ghz

I remember getting my good ol' Celeron 300A up around 504mhz with my Globalwin FOP HSF on my A-Bit BH6 ..
    there's a good 68% OC.

Re: What is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

my idle temps at 1.56 are very low, but with the stock cooler heat becomes an issue when on full load... I'm getting a Big Typhoon cooler soon to combat that heat an hopefully take me a bit further with this 2600. What board are you using and what does that seem to max out at? It may not be your ram, especially if you are testing it at the 100mhz divider.

Re: What is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

The best overclocks I've pulled off over the years...

    AMD 5x86-133 @ 200 MHz, 50 percent
    Intel PPro 180 @ 233 MHz, 29.4 percent
AMD 1600+ Palomino, 1400 MHz stock, 1813 overclock, 29.5 percent
AMD Duron 1600 @ 2250 MHz, 40.6 percent (plus I hacked the Applebred back into an AXP)
AMD Mobile Barton 2500+, 1866 MHz stock, 2300 overclock, 23.3 percent

All of those were done on air cooling; I'm certain that the Duron had more in it, but I never had the time or inclination to put together a watercooling setup.

The Pally was my favorite; I got that one for $42 on Newegg right when the T-breds were fixing to come out, and those last 1600s were sweet overclockers. I was running at 2200+ when you couldn't beg, borrow or steal a real 2200+. Of course, if I had waited two months I could have had a 1700+ T-bred for the same price and went much higher.

After fixing the vdimm mod, it stabilized.

    Duron 1400, locked @ 2551.5Mhz puts it @ 82.25%

Hands down best OC'r I've run across. Boy 'em old days.

Re: What is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

Some of the oldest CPUs could do 100-200% ocs by replacing the clock generator. Stock speeds were usually about 1MHz.

The low-end Core 2 Duos can manage 80-100% overclocks, on air.

My Pentium 75MHz oced to 133Mhz, but died a few months later.

I've had two 90nm S939 chips that have done over 50% OCs, on air.
