Re: What is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

The CPU that I am using to type this has been running with roughly 75% overclock for
almost three years with air cooling.

    T-bred B - 1700+ - DLT3C - 0307 VPMW

Fully expected it to go south long before now. Which is why I bought a spare. So far
it has sat unused. Should probably try it out some day since it is the most desirable
of the "low volt" Tbred Bs .... 0310 WPMW. And a "0001" at that.

Re: What is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

Been running on mine for a few years also, about an 80% oc on air.

    1.6lv Xeon (sl6xk I think. 604 pin)

When I built this rig a lot of folks were getting 90-100% oc's on them. So I got "crappy" chips.

sooo...what about thsoe that screamed i nfear about shortening the life of the cpu by uberclocking?

do they make refridgertaed liquid coolers? ones where the liquid is cooled by a freezer or something then sent back out to cool the system?

Usually done with a peltier, but some people have done it themselves. Condensation is a problem with any sub-ambient cooling.

2600 mobile ran stable at 2.60 GHz (13 X 200 on an alby kt-600 mobo) and still runs stable on an alby 18D Pro II at 11 X 230).

I'm pretty please with my 6600 c2d as well, running at 3.36. That's almost a 1 GHz OC. I know others do better. As a series of chips, the C2Ds probably beat them all.

Prometia are the best known of these. Basically it's a refrigeration unit joined to a water block (but circulating coolant rather than water).

Good question Dan. That's a hell of an overclock.

Yeah the best I could get out of an opty 165 was 2.9 stable on good water. c2q though I could get up to 4.1 on chilled water from 2.6. Thats a damn nice oc. If only I could make a good stable peltier chiller I could run that all the time.

Agreed. I think this is one of the best overclocking chips of all time.

Re: What is the best Overclocking CPU of all time?

ahh.. was hoping you wouldnt ask LOL! i cheated. used a watercooling system. Then i ripped apart an air conditioner, tore out the temp diode. Then took the evap and put it into a cooler. Filled the cooler with 1/3 anti freeze, 2/3 water (give or take...) then contained it. Used an aquarium pump, since it was submergable. Fun experiment, but reuined my opteron 165 in the proccess. was a good dualy.

wish i still had pictures. i think my mom still has a pic on her phone lol. looked pretty cool, but EXTREMLY loud. after about 10 minutes the compressor would quiet down after it reached it optimum temps. there was tons of frost, silicon grease, and foam.. was good times lol.

HAHA! when i went to get some of the materials i went to some hardware stores looking for insulation.. they would ask me what i needed it for and gave me the weirdest looks when i said "I need to cool my computer to sub zero temps to reach a 100% overclock..." prolly all thought i was on drugs lol

I've been running my Opty 165 0610 at 2.8ghz for the last 9 months. Lol, it's outlasted the place I bought it from! Poor Monarch Computers. It's air cooled and runs on a super expensive Biostar motherboard which set me back a whopping $60.00.

Stable as can be. I've never even tried to get it above 2.8ghz, I guess now that the cpu has become so much cheaper, I should give it a shot.

No more Monarch? Was curious so I did a search. Wow.
