    AMD Dual Processor Motherboards

    Hello
I have 3 questions. Maybe someone can help me?

    1. Are there any Motherboards that can run 2 Athlon 64 X2 CPUs?

    2. Can Windows XP Pro run on a single or dual-opteron CPU system?

    3. Regular Windows XP Pro 1-2 CPU Compatible. Is there a version of Windows XP Pro that is run more than 2 cores, such as a Quad-Core system (2 dual-core athlon X2 or 2 dual core opterons)?

    Thanks!

    1. No. Athlon 64's are single CPU socket only. You need Opterons for dual socket operation.

    2. Yes.

    3. Microsoft licenses CPU's by socket, not by the number of cores. Windows XP would run fine with a dual-dual-core hyperthreading Xeon rig (8 CPU's displayed in the task manager)

You also have to make sure the opteron is capable of multi cpu setup cause some of them are for single socket mobos

it would be more cost effective if you went ahead with a dual core chip instead of dual chips, registred ram, etc.

Sadly, the 2xx series Opterons (meant for dual CPU use) are far more expensive than the equivalent 1xx (single CPU) models.
