I'm thinking about chagining out my 80mm 28cfm/28db fans for some higher CFM fans. My question is when does noise become an issue?
Right now I have 5 - 80mm 28db fans in the case and it's not that loud at all. So would 32db or 40db be loud?

It's really a matter of personal preference...
How are your temps? If they're not out of control and you've got good case airflow, then don't switch them out. Unless, of course, you're looking to go with lighted fans....

With five 80 mm fans producing 28 dBA's you are actually producing in the range of 40 dba's right now, then add the other fans your motherboard video card etc. and you are up around 50 dBA's .
It would seem that if you want more airflow you might want to consider moving to 92 or 120 mm fans where possible as either size will produce more CFM's at a lower dBA than your present 80 mm fans.
And as Afterburner said " if it ain't broke don't (why) fix it! I added the why if you don't like don't :-)
Well the how issue is its a Koolance case. It has 2-80mm exhaust fans that are rated at 28cfm/28db with no front intake fan. Then the rad. on top has 3 of the same fans two intaking one exhausting.
I'm wanting to get some better air flow going so I figured that if I replace the fans with some 35-40cfm ones and add a intake fan to the front then that would help. I just don't want a jet engine sitting next to my side.

Ahhh....Understood. Truthfully, I would add an intake for sure. For starters. Then I would watch my temps. If your temps drop a bit, there's really no need to replace your exhaust fans. Really it all depends on your temps. If there's no need for the jet engine affect, don't spend your money needlessly...
Edit: You mean you have 3 blowhole fans in the top panel of your case?? If so, I would have all of those as exhaust. Those fans are cancelling each other out having 1 as intake and 2 as exhaust. The general rule of thumb is: Top and rear as exhaust, front and side as intake....

Yes 3 fans on the top... they sit above the radiator. So your saying I should change the one fan to exhaust with the other two?? I was thing that if anything since there for cooling the radiator that you'd want them to intake (blow) cool air into the radiator.Originally Posted by Afterburner
I'll also be getting a AC NV Silencer for the 6800U... its been running very hot with the overclock and only has the alum. cooler on it. But with that NV Silencer on it it will act as an exhaust fan also.
LOL, this is going to become a little project I can see... I'll take a few pics to show the mess I'm dealing with...

it depends on the individual fans but 40+ decibels ull hear it...some whine way more at 40db than others at 45-even 50
add a couple 120mm fans overhead to drop temps by 10+ celsiusD.S.C-12(2)-disclaimer : whatever u do with your hardware/software is your
