Hoping Conroe is good because I'm getting worried about Intel's future.

Don't want AMD cornering the cpu market now, do we?

1998 Jetta 4 cyl Diesel VS 1998 Mustang 3.8 V6 (both cars stock)

the Jetta will take the Mustang up to 120mph, I know this from personal experience.

stay away from the V8s though, they can catch me

    Umm, well.. sort off.

in automobiles, we tend to think like Intel used to advertise their chips

the more MHz or the more HP the better right? this is simply not the case.

Higher HP/MHz does not signify more power at all, the torque has to be figured in there as well. other factors such as Wieght/Cache/Octane/Voltage/Amperages all also facter in to the equations

up until recently Intel was the shiney car wth 400hp with low torque while AMD was 225hp Diesel Pickup with 460ftlbs of torque pulling the race car, the trailer its on, all the equipment, the tools, spare parts, and often the entire crew and their belongings to the track.

the analogy has some flaws. Higher horsepower in a car always will mean it is faster and better. always. This, of course, assumes equal weight in the cars you are comparing!!! horsepower is a function of RPM and torque. The more of either, the better. Mhz is more analogous to RPM. Torque is analogous to instructions/clock. You need both to have a good processor, but some have more or less of both, yet can produce the same result and execute instructions. It is the speed at which it executes instructions that can be compared to Horsepower.

granted, cars with more torque are generally quicker around town at low speeds because that torque inherently produces power. But if you had 2 cars of the same weight that could always put out the same horsepower (this is theoretical, because cars don't do that), both cars will always accelerate the same no matter how much torque they have (remember, we are assuming they ALWAYS PRODUCE THE SAME HORSEPOWER!!!).

torque, by itself, does nothing. Torque alone cannot move a car. You need the APPLICATION OF TORQUE to do any work. That application of torque is horsepower. 1 horsepower will accelerate an object at exactly the same rate as another object even if the other has more torque behind it. However, the first object must spin faster to produce that same 1 horsepower.

Take 2 examples, the Honda S2000 (240HP/160 lb ft) and Nissan 350Z (300HP/260 lb ft). The cars have similar horsepower (at least on a horsepower per pound basis as they Z is pudgy but has more power). The Z has lots of torque, the S has lots of RPM. Your reasoning would lead you to believe that the Z is the faster car, but it is not. They are about the same acceleration-wise...well actually the s2000 is faster. The Z is still faster at low RPMs it has torque, though.

Seems that a 2.4Ghz Conroe (1066FSB/4Mb L2) can complete Super PI in 21 seconds.

This is regarded as good apparently.
