    Question Gaming LCD choice?

I have been reading every review I could get my hands on for 19"LCD monitors lately and finally think I've narrowed my choice to two. The Samsung 940BF and the Viewsonic VX922. I have no stores in my area that carry these two monitors in stock so I have no way of seeing for myself which is best for me. Mostly gaming will be done on this and I wanted opinions from anyone who has used either of these or even both.

This is my first LCD purchase and hesitant to order one online with all the return restrictions unless I'm 99% sure its the one for me. Any help/advice appreciated, thanks.

i own a 27" viewsonic and so far i have had no problems with it. and it had no dead pixels, both samsung and viewsonic are very good brands, im not a very big fan of 19" or less monitors especially for gaming. though i did order mine online from newegg.com, no problems there, and yeah the return restrictions suck no rma unless 7 dead pixes. hopefully this is usefull in making your decision, especially online purchase..

    Re: Gaming LCD choice?

i had a samsung 191T for the past few years (until this past monday when i went to a 214T) and i had zero problems with it. i liked it for gaming, and did not notice any problems, but i will say that my gaming really dropped off the past two years as time was a hard thing to come by. so maybe i am not the best reference. i ordered from newegg, got it super fast and had no dead pixels. i had a near identical experience with my last purchase, except it got here even faster.

    hope that helps

I have the ViewSonic VX924 (model below the VX922 with 3ms/550:1 instead of 2ms/650:1)

    Love it.

I have owned several ViewSonic monitors, all have been great, I would recommend them anyday

If you're buying a new monitor and the first reason is gaming, you almost have to get a widescreen. It's becoming the new standard in games. (finally)

    Re: Gaming LCD choice?

why is widescreen better for gaming? I understand widescreen is good for widescreen because they are recorded in widescreen format. Is this better for all games, or only newer games?

Actually the Samsung Monitor you listed is the best choice. I really like my Benq FP91G+ also.

A lot of the newer games support widescreen natively. Personally I think it adds a more realistic feel to FPS's and racing sims especially, and in a lot of games it can add an advantage(although minor) by giving you that extra feild of view.

You can check your favorites and how (if possible) to enable widescreen in some of them here:

I've personally played a lot of GTA, Flat Out, Half Life 2, Guild Wars, Call of Duty, and DooM III on my wifes 17" Widescreen laptop, and on our 34" widescreen HDTV. It rules, and I hate going back to my 19" 4:3 CRT.

Heimdal, What kind of setup are you running? Cause if it can do 1600x1200 at decent graphical setting, why limit yourself to 1280x1024? But thats just my opinion.

I am using a Samsung 940B with my second system and like it alot. Works very good with games. I also purchased it from NewEgg and have no dead pixels. Have not used a widescreen LCD, but it sounds nice. It all depends on how much money you want to spend.
