Evga 6800 vanilla - performance expectations?

So, i was looking to save some money, and still game decent on my new rig. I needed a PCI-e card that would be at least some upgrade from my radeon 9700 pro, so i decided to order an EVGA 6800 vanilla. 12 pipelines, 256mb, 256bit memory interface, but less bandwidth than my radeon 9700 pro? I dont understand. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130263 - product link. i cant seem to find any reviews on it. I plan on overclocking it, but any insights into it? (i can still cancel the order).

yeah, radeon has 620MHz memory clock. 6800 vanilla cards used to have 700MHz mem. clock.

the 256MB cards have double the ram but less speed.

19.2GB/s is still more than most mid-range cards out there so it is not slow. It's a big jump over your 9700PRO.

anyone know how well these cards OC? I just wonder if its not worth it to shell out 40-80 more bucks and get an x800gto or 7600gt.

7600GT should be a substantial improvement over the 6800 and the X800GTO, however it is only available in PCI-E (AFAIK), whereas your current card is likely to be AGP.

PCI-E is fine, as its what im looking for - im migrating to a socket 939/PCI-E system so im trying to find a decent graphics card to hold me over until the DX10 cards come out and start to drop in price.

..so if you are migrating to 939/pci-e, and waiting 4 dx10 hyped stuff, spend the extra few bucks for a 7*** card...enjoy dx9 for now...u can then always go SLI, which also is overhyped, but fun nonetheless.....good luck!!!!!
