    Re: The best antivirus

ive installed Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 and it very good one as it worked great - it detected 5 threat (McAfee didnt find it, ZoneAlarm IS 6.5 didnt find it) -- I would recommend either KAV or KIS 6.0 as it best software and I will buy one in few weeks when we come back from holiday - I used 30 days free trial just now - excellent software as it very easy to use.. I would recommend this software to protect your PC.

    Question Re: The best antivirus

OK, now I need to know what the best free anti-virus program to use with Win98SE. I've been using AntiVir, but the last time it updated it screwed up and I had to reinstall it. Now tonight it brought up a screen that asked to update or not and I said not because of what happened previously. A few minutes later a notify screen popped up and I said OK and then it said the notify program had stopped and I Xed out of that screen. Is this normal? I'm thinking about uninstalling and going back to AVG Antivirus. The Win98SE is a recent install and a reinstall of 98SE is not an option at this point. Any thoughts?

Active Virus Shield which is basically just a lite version of Kaspersky. I have retail KAV and right now it is using only 8 MB of memory.

Won't work w/ Windows 98 (I've tried since it has such a small memory footprint). It gives the error "OS not supported" during (attempted) installation. Kaspersky 6.0 says it will only go as far back as Windows Me:http://usa.kaspersky-labs.com/products/anti-virus.php - though I haven't tried it on 98 (and, of course, it's not free). I'd recommend AVG.

I'll update AntiVir again and see what happens, but if it gives me anymore trouble then I'll switch to AVG. Maybe it was just a 98SE or AntiVir glitch of some sort. Thanks.
