when people sell stuff and say shipping will be actual cost... how do they figure that out?

Most people choose USPS as their shipping method, while others may choose UPS or Fedex. These shipping services have online calculate postage option.

Package the item and weigh it, then go to the shipping service's website, enter the info and fill out the forms to calculate the cost. A lot of times the seller will list the item's weight and "shipped from" ZIP code so the buyer can calculate it without having to wait on the seller to respond.

yup, i have shipped over 500 packages with USPS
i have my own scale, i package everything up and weigh it
then either check their website for shipping or have your own
zone calculation sheet with weights listed.

and unlike most people i only charge like a buck or two over the
shipping cost to cover supplies such as bubble wrap or packing
peanuts. USPS has some supplies you can get for free from their
website such as boxes, forms and labels.

i really hate people who charge high amounts for shipping costs
someone could have a great price on a product but if the shipping
is twice what it normally should be, i will keep looking!

I ussually figure in the shipping with what i am selling unless its something really heavy or oddly shaped.

USPS gives out free boxes and i reuse all shipping materials from everything to save costs.

I also get decent pricing through Fedex from my AQHA membership...kind of a member perk from having horses.

USPS boxes can be turned inside out and made into Fedex Boxes if needed also.
