Re: Two problems: Nvidia and Wacom

You must use the nvidia glx with the nvidia driver (same versions).

Thats failing since nvidia glx is only finding the xorg "nv" module.

With apt you should be able to find which nvidia module and glx versions your have installed.

Doesn't Ubuntu have a wiki article on getting offical nvidia drivers working?

Yes, they do have a wiki. It is almost exactly how I posted above.

Re: Two problems: Nvidia and Wacom

I can explain a couple of things, but it's probably not going to help.

    1) Don't worry about /etc/modules. It's a fallback to load modules in case nothing else, like HAL or discover or even X itself loads them. They're being loaded.

    2) The agp drivers _are_ for your SIS 760 chipset. They drive what the video card plugs into.

    3) I see no sign of on-board video from lspci - good!

    3) The gentoo article has a typo. The module is called amd64_agp, the source code is amd64-agp.c and the fix involves compiling the latter to make the former. The fix they talk about is almost certainly in the kernel you are using. It is in my kernel sources, 2.6.16.18.

    4) The nvidia libglx.so is being loaded, only later on, when it's initialized, does the error occur.

I think provicemo has got it. X should be loading nvidia_drv.so, from "NVIDIA Corporation", not nv_drv.so, from "X.Org Foundation". Somewhere your installation got borked. Good luck fishin'.

So do you have these "linux-restricted-modules-386" installed, if so, what version?

The version installed was in the picture I posted before.

    2.6.15.10-2

I reinstalled the system now (I tried Suse 10.1, beautiful but horribly slow), so I will retry everything.

    YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok i got it fixed, and doing alot of searching and crying (and praying too)

    http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=186294

The solution? rename the sis_agp.ko so it doesn't load, then it will load up the nvidia agp drivers

    damn sis760 boards!
