Help! I Accidently fried my memory!

one of the dimms was loose when my machine was turned on this morning i smelled a burning odor and two of the gold leads on the chip are blackened,

whats REALLY weird is the chip still works (the heat spreaders probably absorbed the heat really well) and Memtest86 reports NO errors. Right now my mahcine is unstable I am trying to repair a broken windows xp setup and I read that my ram could be bad so I attempted to remove it (Big mistake) and reinstall one chip at a time well I didnt secure one of them and it burned two of my gold leads out.

so far memtest86 is @ 80% with ZERO errors, does this mean the chip didnt go bad?

Can I buy some gold conduit marker pen to repair the burnt traces?

I will end up getting it replaced eventually but its really strange that it still works even after smelling burnt chemicals and everything. WOuld you say I'm lucky?

Well the memtest hasn't concluded yet, but I will let you all know and keep you updated.

Are there additional tests I can do if memtest86 doesnt show any errors? or is it the best?
    thanks!
BTW the memory is Kingston HyperX PC3500 2x512mb

the only way ill truly know is when i get windows xp up and running correctly right now im using Ultimateboot CD diagnostics memory testing.

I blame BFG and Nvidia for ALL my computer problems ive been having, they sent me a GPU (nvidia 7900 GT OC) that chokes and stutters and ive been trying to spend hours apon hours analyzing the problem and fine tweaking my system and I ended up crashing my OS and burning my RAM

I should have just called their tech support :/

edit: MEM TEST has been going a long time without errors now... like over an hour

Ill leave it running for a day and see what I get.

Ive now passed over 5 checks, I think they will run fine, but am I losing memory bandwidth due to the burnt leads? is there a way to remove the burnt crap and color them in wiht a gold pen? im at 1670mb/sec according to memtest86

I would probably dab a cotton swab in water and clean off the gold contact if it looks like it's still there. I've never burned a DIMM, so I don't know what you're looking at.

Might want to try isopropyl alcohol instead of water.

the alcohol would evaporate and leave mineral deposits that would destroy the dimm... ive rendered electronics worthless by swabbing alcohol on them... it leaves this salty film that short circuits the contacts

just friendly FYI...Ive submerged processors in alcohol without ever having a negetive impact, <shrug> but to be safe I'd use contact cleaner
