Just a warning, look for those two programs* on this page, unfortunately they are both listed.

That page is a widely respected source. See the sticky post above.

    * search the page on "bot" and "begone"

Spyware Doctor and SpySweeper are the two best apps one can use against spyware. I prefer the speed and looks of Spyware Doctor so I stuck with that but both are very-very good. The others donít even come close imho

Ad-Aware, Spybot, and BitDefender's online virus/spyware scanner if necessary.

I'm unimpressed with Windows Defender so far. A friend's machine was full of junk, I ran a scan and it only found 1 item. Ad-Aware and the online scanners from TrendMicro and Kaspersky picked up a ton of stuff. To be fair, he did install Windows Defender after all the spyware was already in place. Perhaps if he installed it before things would have been different.

Defender and Spysweeper do the job. Believe me if infection goes beyond that you got some serious manual cleaning to do.

Uh yes 5000 , spyware is just as bad as a typical virus sometimes. Example. you can norton antivirus or whatever and not find anything but still be infected with a virus. Good idea to boot into safe mode sometimes and then run your AV and spyware programs.

Old feature laden version of Ad-Aware that I just keep updating the defiinitions for. I tend to turn off all potential java and flash vulnerabilities I have and run a fairly defendable hardware firewall. Maybe if I looked at pr0n or AoHell I would need more, but this works fine for me.

I use Pestpatrol and Ad-Aware. PestPatrol is a great app.. it has never let me down. I always use PestPatrol first and Ad-Aware second, and Ad-Aware never finds anything outside of PP's quarantine folder.
