    Sick feeling this morning...

I bought my x2 4400+ about 3-4 months ago for $570 canadian, after reading about the amd price cuts I looked at a local computer shop's website this morning and the processor is now $288 lol. I guess thats the price we all pay with this hobby of ours. Its out of stock and will probably remain that way now that the AM2 processors are taking the front line.

Well at least you bought it 3-4 months ago. Others have only done it some weeks ago .

Anyway Intel let us be aware of the Conroe performance already from early March. It was known that by the time this CPU was released, AMD would axe the prices

So just go out and buy one like I did. I built a 3800+ X2 socket 939 system last December, paying just over $300 USD for the CPU. I was happy to pay just $169 USD a few days ago (ordered on Monday, the day the floor dropped) for the AM2 version of this lovely CPU. We see the same thing happen in the videocard scene too. It's all about timing... :-)

I bought an AM2 4200 for 370$ 1 month and half ago, so I feel your pain... to a lesser degree.

It sucks to see the price drop like that - but it's a loser's game - prices will always fall. The question is when do you want to get into the action of buying the quality product!

I'm still waiting for the shoe to drop on prices for AGP video cards!

thats another major reasion im moving from my current system to am2, my x800xt pe is nice but i would like to beable to use at least an equivlant chip of the newer gen, but thats not possable due to both companys eather charging a preimum for the newer gen of chips on agp OR not even making agp versions avalable to us.

so im gonna go x1900xt or gt (his iceq3) when i upgrade since i do want my system to last as long as possable without need of an upgrade for less then i spend on this x800xt pe a couple years back i can get the worlds current leader in tech and perf for a singel card(payed around 400 for this card can get x1900xt iceq3 for 360 range) to me this is a good choice to do now, it sets me up to buy a new cpu eather when the 65nm chips hit the market OR when the 2nd or 3rd gen of them hits, not to mention that IF i keep my current system up and running it will be perfect for people to game on when they come over as its cards still kickin azz.

and b4 any of you mention eather the 7800/7900 agp cards or the 7950gx they are over priced and in the case of the 7950gx its buggy as hell, i know of at least 3 ppl who are still waiting for a driver that works properly, also they are HUGE and HOT cards, not that the x1900 isnt hot, but with iceq3 cooling it run in a vary resonable temp range

I've been updating several of my AGP systems with new videocards. I have two of the 7800 GS cards, one 6800 GS card, and one 6800 XT card. I really dig the performance of the 7800 GS (I have an eVGA and a PNY, but the eVGA super clocked is much better). Prices have been high, and it's tough to find a deal on them. In fact, you are lucky to find a 6800 GS these days.

What has been amazing, outside of the price drop on the 24th is how long the AMD's have had consistant pricing.

I suspect that pricing around the current cuts will be stable for some time.

It depends on competition. AMD was leading and chose to use high pricing in order to make money. Now Intel is leading and decides the prices. AMD is forced to cut it to remaing competitive in price/performance ratio (in the degree that this is possible to happen).

If Intel releases a 3.2 and 3.46 GHz CPU for the Christmas market (seems to me it can do it with ease), AMD will have to cut prices further (if possible), and sell its high-end CPUs for mainstream prices.

Better have some cash on hand for further price drops. I'm already planning out possible machine themes into 2007. What do you guys think about "Recylatron"? I'm thinking about a recycle bin with a gaming machine built inside. If I was going to build a machine in a trash can, I would use a Pentium IV....

and in that time i have used my x800xt pe to great effect, the 7800gs=slower then the 7800 venilla pci-e, nvidia dosnt give you the same perf with agp as they do with pci-e :/

my buddy has a 7800"gt" for agp, caust him and arm+legg+left nut, and its still not any better then my 2 year old x800xt pe, he payed close to what i payed for my card 2 years ago to get his card to, to me thats SAD!
diamond and a couple other companys where gonna put out x1800 cards in agp but didnt for some reasion, i would have grabbed up an x1800xt for agp in a hart beet, would love to see an x1900gt/xt for agp but it wont happen, they want us to move to pci-e so i am asap

may sell this card and put an x1600pro in this box to use as a backup game system(can get more for this card then the 1600pro iceq version causts, my buddy got one NEW for 80$ range )
