1680x1050 display on 15.4" WXGA notebook?

Alright guys, I'm hoping someone has the answer to this question. I have an eMachines M5405 notebook with the widescreen display. The specs are listed below. My usual display setting is 1280x800, but I'd like to move up to 1680x1050 if possible. I've updated the SiS display drivers and I'm given the option of 1680x1050 under the screen resolution. The issue is that I can select 1680x1050, but then it sets the screen up so that the Windows bar and other desktop accessories no longer fit on the screen and thus I have to scroll up and down.

Am I out of luck or is there a way around this? Thanks in advance for your help.

It sounds as though the screen is not capable of displaying 1680x1050. Although the drivers allow it, it's probably a non-standard resolution for that display.

That's what another person suggested. Is there no way around it though? I'll just have to make sure that my next purchase has a higher resolution if so.

Unlike a CRT, an LCD screen has a fixed number of pixels. That number is the native resolution. The only way the monitor can run at a different resolution is to interpolate it, and the quality suffers quite a bit.
