    Re: Asus Crosshair AM2 Motherboard

Just had to build a system with a Crosshair board and X2 4600+ for a customer in one hour flat, he turned up at 4pm and wanted it built before closing time (5.30pm).

I had it booting off his XP cd by 5pm

    Specs of speedily built rig:-

    Asus M2-Crosshair mobo
    AMD X2 4600+ AM2 (BOX)
    2 x 1GB AData 667MHz DDR2
    4 x 160GB Seagate SataII Hard Drives (Raid 0+1)
2 x Asus Passive 7600GS 512MB gfx cards in SLI
    DVD Rom
    DVD RW
    E-Zcool Alpine Black case
    E-Zcool 600w modular psu
8cm fan in front of hard drives drawing cool air in
12cm Thermaltake fan in the back drawing heat out

I'd have had XP installed on the raid array by half five if the boss hadn't but our shop OEM disk in instead of the guys retail XP-pro...doh!

You know, the reason the 4600+ isn't listed in the CPU compatability list might be because there are 3 flavours of the 4600 with the lowest power version rarer than rocking-horse pooh, and the Asus engineers may not have had access to one to test with so they could'nt certify that the board would work with all 4600s...my build went fine.

Putting the two sticks in the same colour does it - but it's still bl**dy hard to work out what the manual is actually saying!

    Re: Asus Crosshair AM2 Motherboard

    For comparison, my new specs:

    AMD X2 4600+ AM2
Thermalright XP90 cooler with Antec 92mm fan
    Asus AM2 Crosshair
    2x 1GB Geil 800MHz 4-4-4-8
    BFG 7900GT OC
2x Maxtor 80GB/8MB SATA II drives in RAID0
    DVD-ROM
    Coolermaster Praetorian 762 case
    1x 120mm intake, 1x 80mm top exhaust, 1x 120mm side exhaust, 2x 80mm rear exhaust
    Anter TruPoer 500W PSU.

This is machine #2 BTW, hence the lack of DVD-RW etc.

    Re: Asus Crosshair AM2 Motherboard

Had a customer purchase one of these and had issues with it POSTing. I did alot of checking stuff out and it turned out the machine would post intermittently to not at all with a Phantom500 (the PSU he originally bought). Going with the low-noise high efficiency theme I tried the Neo550 and even worse, the machine would only turn on for about 2 secs at a time. All while this was happening our test cheapo 350 would power it and get it to post 100% reliably. *Maybe* this could have been fixed in a bios update, but we ended up just going with a non-finiky Truepower2 480, which worked flawlessly.

    Anyone else have similar issues?
    Manchester X2 4200+ @ 2.5ghz
    Abit AV8
    AGP 6800 Ultra
    Truepower 480
    Couple HD's, cdroms blah blah
    Gentoo/Windows dual boot

    Old board and cpu:
    Venice Core A64 3200+ @ 2.5ghz
    A8V Deluxe

    Re: Asus Crosshair AM2 Motherboard

Hey guys, I just wanted to say I have the Crosshair board, and I love it!

It seems to me that most of the problems people are having with this board are either due to NOT READING THE MANUAL (which is poorly written and hard to understand, I'll admit), or using improper components. The only problem I had was the dual channel memory (as mentioned earlier in this thread), which I was able to figure out fairly quickly. Any other problems I've had have been my own d*mn fault!

My system works great! I've got the x2 4200 overclocked to 2639mhz, my cheap memory is running @869mhz at 3-4-4-10 2T, and the 2 7600's in SLI. It runs stable and cool, and my 3dmark06 score of 6292 is second for my CPU/GPU combo (by only 24 points)!

    Long live the CROSSHAIR!

    Hi all

could someone tell me what's the maximum (working) Vcore that you can give to X2 cpus? I have M2N32-SLI DLX and as i suppose you all know that mb can't give more than 1.5675(1.6 actual). If Crosshair gives voltage over 1.65 i'm gona hit it.

    Thanks a lot.

The Crosshair can deliver up to 1.85V. If you have serious cooling or lots of money.

Well i'm watercooled and i need to go over 1.6volt. I see in your rig you have a 4600@251x11.........could you tell me what volt do you give for that?I have a 4200@2850 and i want to move to 4600 to hit 3G.

    Thanks.

Might check out the Meridian Overclocking thread. There is a link in the sticky post at Sticky Post->M2N->Crosshair->"Meridian's Crosshair Overclocking Diary"

It's currently down at 248 x 11.0 - 251 would run benches, but Oblivion crashed all the time. Volts are set at 1.5625, but Asus Monitor says that they are actually at 1.52.

Note that A64 chips tend to hit a ceiling, which no amount of overvolting will get you past. The extra cooling from water will be more use than the extra volts.

Cool Re: Asus Crosshair AM2 Motherboard

    I bought the Crosshair, a 4600+ X2 and 1Gx2 Corsair TWIN2x2048-6400R memory, tried four different PSU's the lowest rated being a PCP&C 510W SLI.

Couldn't get the first motherboard to do anything but light up the LED's, so sent it back to Newegg. New one arrived and it had the same problem, so this time I sent it to Asus.

I've just received it back from Asus with a note saying "software reloaded and problem with NIC repaired" whatever that means. Will try again to get it running this weekend.

    Any ideas??

My bet would be on a memory related issue - timing, voltage, etc. When I bought the M2N32-SLI Deluxe, it wouldn't POST. I bought a cheap stick of 512 PC4200 and it fired right up. G.skill ended up replacing the memory w/ a different model. It's quite possible that the Corsair will work fine after setting some of the memory parameters in the BIOS (of which there are many available, btw).

    Varsos...
The M2N32-Deluxe can give you more than 1.5675V
It has a 200mv overvolt setting in the bios.
Switching it on gives +.2V to whatever you manually set the voltage to....
    So 1.5675 + .2 = 1.7675V
