Maxtor have acknowledged that there is a compatibility issue between some of their HDDs & Motherboard with nForce Chipset. Here's a link to Maxtor's website:

Unfortunately, I have these combos & that's why I'm here. I'm waiting for Maxtor to respond to my email requesting a Firmware to fix my MaxLine Pro HDD so it'll be compatible
with my A8N-SLI Mobo. In the meantime...I was wondering if anyone has this Firmware that
Maxtor is talking about. Help Anyone?

had some issues with maxtors and nf4's myself..meaning either i had to keep it as a single master or not use it at all.most of my machines have 2+ hdds,so immagine the pain...............................flashing hdd firmware i personally kinda hate,id rather fash the fresh pair of top of de line cards
add a couple 120mm fans overhead to drop temps by 10+ celsiusD.S.C-12(2)-disclaimer : whatever u do with your hardware/software is your

I read this straight away before buying my Maxtor 250gb HDD as I already bought my nForce4 board 2 months before. As of the 1st day I booted up and installed XP Pro I have had no issues everything is running smooth and the performance is excellent.
The drive is slightly noisy sometimes thou my Hitachi Deskstar 80GB drive that was in my old PC was dead quite but my Maxtor is doing great.Windows XP 32bit SP3 (Moving to Win 7 RC1 64bit Soon)
