Richard Hammond critical after 300mph crash

Richard "Hamster" Hammond is critical after crashing a jet powered dragster during filming for the new series of top gear. He was going for the UK land speed record when the open topped dragster went out of control and rolled several times.

My hopes are with him and his family,it'd be a real shame if he doesnt make it through this.

Re: Richard Hammond critical after 300mph crash

Been watching the forums over at Finalgear.com about it.

Sure hope he will be well, some reports now say he is now in serious but stable condition, maybe not critical. "Hammond stable after 300mph crash" - Guardian.co.uk Linky

I hope him a smooth speedy recovery and a great return for series 9 . I'm not sure when or what I or Top Gear would do without him in the great trio they have. I know alot of people are pulling for him.

Just for a note, he was driving this sucker:

    Crazy little Hamster for sure!

    *EDIT*
I guess some Finalgear.com members are hatching a plan to send him a fruit basket with an Xbox360 and a couple racing games while he recovers

    source - http://www.topgear.com/

Jeremy told TopGear.com: "Richard remains in intensive care....
Richard Hammond is 'stable' but remains seriously ill in hospital after a crash in a jet-powered car.

The accident happened during filming for the new series of Top Gear at the former RAF airfield in Elvington, near York.

Richard was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary's neurological unit. A hospital spokesman said this morning: "He has seen some improvement overnight, but remains in a serious but stable condition."
Lets hope he gets better soon. The show wouldn't be the same without him...

I'm glad he's doing better. Top Gear wouldn't be near as good of a show without Hammond. I just hope he doesn't have any brain damage or any long term problems, except of course Clarkson giving him constant crap about the crash.

Wow...Sky is reporting a brain injury
"Sky - 'Hammond has a brain injury' "
    Linky

    The Guardian also
    " TV's Hammond 'suffers brain injury' "
    Linky

They say he's improving, I'm sure he'll pull through.

Re: Richard Hammond critical after 300mph crash

He's out of intensive care now, which is a good sign.

A Leeds General Infirmary spokesman said: "Doctors say Richard Hammond is making satisfactory progress.

"This morning he has been moved from intensive care on to a high dependency unit.

"His condition has been downgraded from 'serious but stable' to 'stable'."

The doctors treating Mr Hammond have previously said they are "reasonably optimistic" he will make a good recovery.

Good. Let's hope the "significant brain injury" isn't as serious as it sounds! I think he'd be frustrated that they didn't get a record of his top speed, all that trouble for nothing.

Re: Richard Hammond critical after 300mph crash

a full recovery is looking hopeful,

however the same cant be said for TG itself, the last best of.. to be aired has been pulled and by the looks of things a new series could be in serious jeopardy because of this incident
