new power supply suggestions for nf4 ultra-d

after 3.5 years of solid use, my 465 watt enermax is starting to fritz out on me, time for a replacement, system specs are

    dfi nf4 ultra-d
    3700+ san diego 2.97ghz 11x270
    mushkin 2x1gig pc4000
    evga 7800gt 470/1100 clock
    wd raptor 36 gig
    seagate 320gig
    dvd burner
    watercooled

one key issue is size, do to how my watercooling is installed, my psu cannot be longer then 6 inches, and a modulor unit nearing that size could pose a problem, and as i can't find any info on the web on the physical size of most of psu's, i'm looking for people who have actualled used some of my choices, or who have other suggestions

so far i've been looking at the ocz modstream 520 and the 550 watt mushkin, as well as a beefier enermax(500+ watts), but leaning towards the mushkin

anyone have any suggestions to add, or reasons to avoid any of the above selections?

I'd go for the OCZ, but have you looked at fortron or sparkle PSU's? They're good for the money. If you have money to spend, get a PC Power and Cooling, the best money can get. That's if they fit into the case with the watercooling there.

In addition, here's some units you may want to look at.

    Antec TruePower TPII-550 (500W)
    Enermax EG565P-VE (535W)
    Enermax EG701-AX (600W)

I do agree with what he said though: Sparkle and Fortron make some solid units. Also, you might consider Tagan power supplies.

    uh,

stick to the list and you should have no problems.

i use the OCZ520 adjustables, have several, nary a problem, even running SLI they have enough powa.

thanks for the reply's, i was just worried that the 12v power was a significantly lower on the ocz520 then the mushkin 550, but it also looks like the 600 watt ocz should fit, at least based on the impression i get from the relative size of the fan in the pictures

the enermax's are certainly another option, i've only had to buy 2 psu's for my systems over the last 6 years, both have been enermax's, and up till now, both have been chugging along with no issues

Re: new power supply suggestions for nf4 ultra-d

i have had 3 enermax psu's conk out on me.
one blew up in my face the first time it was powered up. it was a new build so i had the case open to see if all the fans were running. with my face about 8 in's from the psu i pressed the power button and kaboom!. although unhurt i had black soot marks on my nose and cheeks. the second one went silently overnight. third ,well...actually my dad's that i built was reported to go out with a bang also. arc's shooting out the top and psu rear fan vents with a loud report.

personally im going to steer clear of those.

my thermaltakes have been reliable. the fortron in my firewall machine has been running 24/7 for, wow...may be five years or more.

FSP Fortran AX500 Blue Storm is a perfect choice for your rig. If you wanna go with SLI cards, you should go to a 600 Watt unit. For one video card, the 500 is more than adequate for what you are running. I know cause I am running one for about a year or so. Rails are rock stable and just a tid bit over designated amperage.
