You NEED a wheel. 'Nuff said.

Great sim, once you've got a wheel though.

bah, don't need a wheel, gamepad will do just fine. wheels are for the hardcore, getting out the pedals, cklamping the wheel to your desk, not to mention the ac adapter for force feedback wheels, can be a pain, you have to really like racing games to buy a wheel.

it is pretty fun using a force feedback wheel though, i won one a few years ago with force feedback, pretty cool, but way more work than i'm willing to put up with.

get a nice logitech rumblepad 2. great pads and they're relatively cheap.

otherwise yes you can probably play with a keyboard, but i doubt it'll be much fun.

it can be done, of course; but that does not mean it SHOULD be done

    not a racing sim player
GTR2 is as hardcore as racing sims get mate

bah, don't need a wheel, gamepad will do just fine.
depends on how competitve you want to be.

A wheel will make you faster, will make the game more fun and realistic and will bring a smile to your face.

A decent wheel will also cost you over $100.

That said, I have a Logitech MOMO wheel with ECCI pedals (cost me $450 for pedals). Makes the racing experience absolutley thrilling. It has excellent physics, so a wheel enhances the game to what it was made for.

That said, yeah, a game pad would be better than a keyboard, I think. But if you get the hankering, pick up a decent wheel at a Best Buy or something (maybe Logitech's Driving Force Pro or whatnot) and give it a try. If you don't like it, return it.

I still use my Logitech Wingman gamepad for racing games, but I do have a Logitech Momo wheel setup with the pedals. I don't use it much anymore though. That said get a decent game pad and you'll enjoy the game alot more for sure.

Re: gtr 2 play with keyboard and mouse

The game is a hardcore sim racer, so a keyboard should not be used. A decent wheel is a little over $100 nowadays, the Logitech MOMO and DFP can be had for $130-$150.

Not sure why you're asking that since I've never played Nascar Racing 2003. You must be thinking of another person. I only play Live For Speed and GTR/GT Legends.

Okay. I knew a fellow way back when who used to run that game all the time and always painted Fords with the SVT logo. I assumed it was you.

As Jack Nicholson once said.. "You gotta get the wheel man."

It will shave off a lot of your lap time. I use to play GT4 on my PS2 with a game pad, it's not bad but a wheel that has force feedback is very close to actual driving.

All that is missing is a rumble seat.

i don't think he's gonna pony up for a wheel, he was willing to use a keyboard and mouse. gamepad will do fine.

you gotta really like racing games if you're going to buy a wheel, even one of the cheaper ones.
