    New CPU Benchmark

Last night I threw together a benchmark based on an enciphering algorithm I invented last year. It is normally used to encipher files or data sent across the Internet in applications I develop. I removed all ties to external I/O and set it up to encipher a randomly generated 128MB test set of data.

This was designed to be a good measure of (mainly) ALU performance, as the "Aleris" cipher is completely integer logic. An interesting note is the performance difference between CPUs with large caches and those with smaller ones.

If you'd like to help out by providing feedback of your machines' scores, I would greatly appreciate it. It will allow me to add more reference scores to the program.

    Thanks!

    Re: New CPU Benchmark

The Core 2 Duos seem to be a lot faster at this. Perhaps it's as I suspected with the larger cache size being important.

    Re: New CPU Benchmark

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I'll release a new version later today that includes a lot more reference scores. Naturally, you all will be thanked in the Help>About window.

I also hope to make a multithreaded version soon.

    Re: New CPU Benchmark

    9.8

My only criticism is that overall scores are small figures. What about more accuracy combined with a multiplication factor of 1000, so my score was (say) 9812 or whatever? Just a bit of simple psychology.
