!!!FREE!!! 250GIG Seagate when you buy 500gig Seagate, newegg...

    Ends 11/12/06

It is a combo deal. I just noticed it tonight. I'd get this if only my motherboard likes seagate HDDs, but it doesnt. Well actually i'll double check on this tomorrow, hopefully they will and if so, I'm going to jump on this deal.

this is very tempting. I just had a 300g give up on me and I am a fanatic about storage.

I like the fact that if you picked up an FX-55 combo'd with one of these 250 gb drives and the one combo'd with this 500 gb drive you easily have a fairly affordable 1tb file server easily in the works.

Bump for the deal continuing on until 12/31! This is probably the last chance. I'd get it but all SATA Seagates I tested on different motherboards give me tons of SMART seek errors and ECC errors, which means the drive is succeptible to failure.

How do you test for SMART seek errors? I have a 320GB SATA in my PC and it seems to be performing perfectly.

Seagates all have 5 year warranties as well, not a bad deal.

    Very nice indeed.

I hope someone responds about the SMART error testing because I want to test my 320GB Perpendicular storage SATA drive.

I'm using Spinrite 6.0 where it gives me a SMART status report of ANY HDD. This is a great HDD diagnosing program and helps recovers bad sectors anyway it can.

Whenever I install Win XP Pro on any Seagate 7200.9-7200.10 After the installation of other programs etc, whenever it starts to load windows after a reboot it ends up freezing or going straight into chkdsk.

It started on my epox board thats in my sig, but I checked out the same hard drives on different motherboards and it still gives me the same errors. I tested them on Asus P5VDC (via chipset), Asus A8N-VM-CS. I should mention that I've only tested both the 160gig model, and 120gig of the seagates (ranging from old to the latest firmware).

I'm still, slowly, trying to pin down the cause of the problem. I can't go opening all the new HDDs at work now . So, the issue I'm having is still inconclusive. I've notified Seagate and Epox about the problem I've been having and Epox has been more helpful.

And the 5 year warranty is great. I replaced my 120gig HDD a month before it expired because it was giving me a SMART error through the motherboard BIOS screen (it was seek errors/ECC corrected) and would take a long time loading programs from that HDD. Now I have a new one that works just like the day I bought it.

Instead of getting this deal I went ahead and bought a 400gig Samsung for $110.

Doesn't look like there is a trial version of Spinrite and it's expensive so I'll have to pass on that. I'll check download.com or perhaps such a testing program came with the hard drive.

Seagates Diagnostic tool does not give SMART status. Only other diagnostic I can think of it Samsung's HDD, which I think can still give SMART status for any other brand HDD, not entirely sure.
