Win Explorer Shortcuts Open In Same Window

    OS: Windows XP Home.

In Windows Explorer, I have created shortcuts to various folders and have them accessible through the "Links" toolbar. I have the shortcuts set up to open in an explorer-style window (with the folder view). For example, I have a folder called "Camera Transfers", so the target for that shortcut reads like this: %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,D:\Docs\Pictures\Camera Transfers

    Observe:

Here's the problem. When I click my shortcuts, they open up in a new explorer window. How do I make them open in the same window?

    Thanks in advance.

Nope. That option is already selected.

    OK, try ..

Right click the link ->Properties. Then change

    "%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /e,D:\Docs\Pictures\Camera Transfers"
    to just
    "D:\Docs\Pictures\Camera Transfers"

The problem is that the /e switch (which is the dual-pane version of the /n switch) invokes a new window. The solution is to use a single pain pane Explorer window without either of those switches, as Senor Panadero has suggested.

Having a Target value of "D:\Docs\Pictures\Camera Transfers" is the same as:
    %SystemRoot%\explorer.exe D:\Docs\Pictures\Camera Transfers

Let me see if I understand this.

Forget the link for a minute. In your picture up there, if you type into the Explorer address bar

    D:\Docs\Pictures\Camera Transfers

And then hit Enter, it will open a new window?

No. If I type it, it opens the folder in the same window.

So if you ceate a new link, and type that same thing in as the path (no switches, no explorer.exe, nothing else, just D:\Docs\Pictures\Camera Transfers), does it not open that in the same window?

    Nope. New window.

However, it I type it in the current window's address bar (no shortcut involved), it will go to that folder in the same window (normal behavior).

My last two guesses are: Internet Explorer->Tools -> Internet Options ->Advanced -> Reuse Windows for Launching Shortcuts, and/or, in Windows Explorer Tools->Folder Options->Restore Defaults.

    If that doesn't work, reformat.

No way. I reformatted a couple weeks ago and I just got everything the way I like it.

    Oh well.

So wait, you're telling me that if you put a folder shortcut in your favorites and click it, it will open the folder in the same explorer window that's already open?

    Balls.

Is anyone adept enough at registry editing to know how to make it work for me?

So you made the Internet Explorer setting and you restored the folder option defaults, rebooted and it is still the same?
