Then run the integrity check (start-menu CD) ...

Then install ...

checked the hash after downloading. they match number for number, letter for letter. off to burn it now with write verify.

during write verify...i got read errors in one sector. will try with differnt media on a different drive.

what would cause read errors?

probably the media itself but it could be the drive. Maybe try a slower burn speed on the next try.

tried same media...different drive. nero reported everything as good to go. burn was successful and write verify was successful. now to try and boot with it and run its check.

well the cd passed all verifications, from the checksum up to the on disc check. tried running the live version on my wifes rig (didnt want to risk screwing up my main rig) and seemed to go ok for a minute. was attempting to make this post on it but it locked up. i just figured it had something to do with the fact that it was running off of the CD.

going to try and install it tomorrow...or maybe saturday.

If you 're sure about the drive, it 's a bad medium.
That 's 'the' reason why I do write verify. You never know if that disc is 100% OK if you don't !

If you have enough RAM, it should work.
When you or it start another app. (or just exe) and that is not in RAM yet, it needs to get that from the CD [ like everything else), so you just need to be patient till it starts (you can follow the action on your optical's indicator LED(s) ]

I 've only run a few KNOPPIX versions Live before I attempted this Xubuntu I 'm running now.
Just before the latter, my Brother-in-Law had installed Mandriva 2006 for me.
I 'd run into a bit of trouble with that ...

I decided to start afresh with SMP on Xubuntu.

& here I am, just over the 30 finished WU's mark !


That 's nearly 30,000 points from 1 rig !

I think the latter is a long-term plan.

I 'm running SMP on my X2 3800+ (clocked @ 4800+) with Xubuntu (an other Ubuntu flavour).
Went fine (I used version 6.10) and just had to install the 32-bit libs to be able to run the SMP client which is still 32-bit coded. The SMP-core is 64-bit.

If you go into the browser, you can go Bookmarks / Ubuntu and free software links ...

Are you sure it wasn't detected and installed ???

Which package/distro did you use (in the end) ?
